About Margaret Blake
I began writing from a young age, however it was not until my husband, John, persuaded me to do something about it, that I set about writing seriously.
A love of history drew me to writing historical romances, the first of which A Sprig of Broom was published in 1979. A further five historical romances followed, and then, under my Grandmother’s name, Ellen Noone, I published five contemporary romances.
Having missed out on further education, I spent four years in higher education and spent a further ten years working as a Lecturer and Teacher.
I especially loved teaching ‘mature students’ people like myself who had for various reasons, not been able to continue their education.
After retirement and a long trip around Australia and New Zealand – in part backpacking – I once again took up my pen. Returning to one of my favourite themes, righting the wrongs done to the name of King Richard Third by Tudor propagandists, I wrote Seed of the Broom, which was published in e-book format.
I have written three new romances for publication through Whiskey Creek Press. The first, Fortune’s Folly was published in August 2006. Eden's Child and Beloved Deceiver were published in 2007.
2008 sees me returning to my very first publisher Robert Hale Limited. A new venture too in that the two novels they have accepted are romantic suspense. The first Breaking the Clouds will be out in June 2008. Date of publication for “A Poisoned Legacy” not yet available.
Breaking the Clouds is set in New Zealand and tells the story of Bron who is cheated and betrayed by her husband. Can she trust the enigmatic Job Tepi or does he know more than he admits? Add to the mix the beautiful but strange Marged and you have an exciting mix of romance and suspense.
A Poisoned Legacy has a Florida setting, more details later.
With three novels on the block at Whiskey Creek Press and a new contract signed with Wings Press for my twentieth novel, life is pretty sweet at the moment.
I am a member of the Romantic Novelists Association
I am married to John and I have a wonderful son, a beautiful daughter in law and three gorgeous grandchildren.

An Interview with Margaret Blake
By Katie Raines, Assistant for The Romance Studio
KR: Margaret, thank you for joining us at TRS. Please tell us about
your latest release, Breaking the Clouds. MB: Breaking the Clouds is a romantic suspense, a new venture for me. It tells the story of Bron who is happy with her life until it all goes very badly.
Her husband disappears taking all their money. Someone is out to kill her
and she does not know why. There is Job Tepi, a handsome New Zealander, but
can she really trust him when he knew that her husband was gambling with
money he did not have?
KR: Your heroine moves with her husband to New Zealand and is content with life until all security is taken from her. Where did you get the idea for this story? MB: I had been to New Zealand and loved it and wanted to set a story there. I
had this idea of this rather eccentric girl who had a terrible time growing
up. I wanted to write about her but not have her as the heroine. It just
went on from there. She became Bron's cousin, Marged...it took a long time
to write this novel, two years actually, I kept stopping and starting, it
was quite a challenge to write because it was a whole new genre for me.
KR: How do you go about crafting a character's life knowing you're
going to drastically alter it? MB: It just evolved, I knew that Bron was going to get into trouble but I also
knew that she would somehow cope with that. She is quite a strong character,
but she is not aware of all her hidden depths until she is put to the
challenge. Aren't we all a little like that in real life?
KR: How did you go about choosing the setting for this story? Is it a
place familiar to you? MB: I had a glorious holiday in Australia and New Zealand, I went backpacking
some of the time, and some of the time stayed with friends. Believe me both
countries are inspirational. I wrote Eden's Child about Australia, so now I
have visited New Zealand in my story and you know it was glorious being able
to visit again in my mind.
KR: What was your favorite part of writing this story? MB: You know, I really enjoyed keeping the mystery going, it was something
different for me to do, and it was challenging and exciting. I guess I liked
writing the whole book; every page was exciting for me. You know I am
terrible when I know something, I always want to "share" but this time I
knew but could not until the end...that was real hard for me.
KR: What do you have coming up soon for readers? MB: In the future I have another romantic suspense called Poisoned
Legacy,(Robert Hale Limited) that is set in Florida and now I think I have
the knack of writing suspense it did not take me two years to write it.
Actually my publisher really liked it because he let me know he would
publish it very, very quickly.
In August 2008 my romantic novel His Other Wife is out, published by
Whiskey Creek Press. I will be so happy to see this book in print, I really
like the characters, two people who should never have met and fallen in
love, my heroine is quite a challenging character, and I think rather
sympathetic if only she was not so stubborn! Also I am pleased to hear from Whiskey Creek Press that The Substitute Bride will be published this year. This is a return to historical romance territory. The novel is set in the tempestuous period just after the death of King Richard the Third. In December Whiskey Creek
Press are bringing out "Spanish Lies" which has an interesting plot and
guess what in January I have a romance out with Wings Press called Bitter
Betrayal also partly set in Florida! So you can see quite a lot is
happening this year.
KR: You've now written twenty books, Margaret. How has the writing
process changed for you since you started? MB: It has changed greatly. I started out writing historical romance and then
went to contemporary romance. Now I am writing romantic suspense too, so I
guess I am evolving all the time.
KR: What's the most important thing you've learned in your writing career? MB: Quite simple really, take the knocks and disappointments and hang on in
there!
KR: What's your favorite way to interact with readers? MB: I love talking to my readers, either via e mail or in person. I have formed
some lovely friendships with some readers and it is always great to hear
from them.
KR: What would you like to tell the readers out there? MB: That I appreciate them so much. So often you don't get time to say thank you
for reading my book, so I would like to do that right now!
Thank you, Katie I really enjoyed this visit.
KR: Thank you!
