AND A SEDUCTION THAT COULD DESTROY THEM BOTH
The daughter of Wulfric's fiercest opponent, Sapphire is a prized warrior in her own right and highly skilled in the sensual arts--in short, Wulfric's perfect match. A lasting union is unthinkable, but the bargain they strike--to spend one night together, and then part--proves impossible in the face of a desire powerful enough to bring two countries to the brink of war, and two hearts to the point of surrender...

An Interview with Livia Dare
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Livia, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured book, In The Flesh.LD: IN THE FLESH is Romeo and Juliet, sheik/concubine, warrior and kick-ass heroine. Sapphire is the beloved concubine to the King of Sari. Wulfric is Crown Prince of D’Ashier, Sari’s enemy. First, Wulfric is Sapphire’s captive. Then, he turns the tables and captures her. But in the end, they’re both caught by the passion between them and must risk everything, including a war, to be together. They’re lusty characters; two people who live at the extreme in everything they do. That lust for life makes them very explosive together.
As an aside, IN THE FLESH is an erotic romance and as such I’m very excited that Kensington is releasing the trilogy as mass market paperbacks through their Zebra imprint. This makes it possible for the books to sell at a lower price point than trade paperback, and it’s also an added opportunity for Kensington to gauge the performance of erotic romance in the MM format.
HH: This is the first book in your Sapphire series. First, how did this series come about? LD: I wrote IN THE FLESH as a stand-alone novel, but my editor wanted a trilogy. So the series idea came from her.
HH: How does In The Flesh kick off the series? LD: It establishes the relationship between Wulf and Sapphire, as well as the multitude of obstacles between them.
HH: What can you tell us about the books to come in the Sapphire series? LD: The trilogy follows Wulf and Sapphire as they work toward their HEA. Wulf's position as Crown Prince and Sapphire's personal attachment to Sari will continue to cause trouble for them, with the danger escalating for the entire planet.
HH: Sapphire is finally in control of her life after life as a concubine. What do you admire most about her and how do you relate to her? LD: She makes no apologies for who she is or what she wants. She always finds ways to stay in control, even when situations seem to be getting out of hand. I relate to her determination to be happy and her ambition. Life is too short to let any of it go to waste.
HH: What's your favorite type of story to write and why?
LD: I love writing everything. All genres, all lengths. I really don't have a preference. I'm grateful that I've been able to write whatever strikes my fancy.
HH: What's your favorite part of the creative process in writing? LD: Hitting "the zone." That's a place writers reach far too rarely where they get lost in the story and the words flow faster than they can type. Hours and/or days can pass and it's euphoric. Writers spend so much time struggling with stories, but when those "zone" moments happen, it's magical.
HH: What challenges do you face at this point in your career? LD: Expansion of my distribution channels (and from that my fan base) are my biggest hurdles at the moment. I've been published exclusively in trade paperback, which has limited distribution and print runs. This year is my first in mass market and I have to build a relationship with new distributors, buyers, and readers.
HH: What are you reading now? LD: The Rules of Gentility by Janet Mullany. Love it!
HH: What are your plans for the summer? LD: Spending lots of quality time with my kids. I'm hoping to take as many trips as possible with them over the summer break.
HH: Thank you!
