Navajo woodworker Bryan Lapahie can't believe his luck when a wealthy photographer hires him to create sculptures for a mansion beyond his wildest dreams. Once inside, Bryan finds his new boss is a man of many possessions, including a woman who has given herself to a Master whose extreme BDSM lifestyle makes Bryan doubt his own Dominant tendencies. As he and the slave known as Butterfly learn more about each other, their relationship grows until Bryan has but one thought-to rescue her from the life she's chosen.
Freeing Butterfly from her Master is only the beginning of the journey. A trip home to the reservation Bryan had left behind brings the couple even closer together as they learn to let go of the past and become the people they choose to be.

About Bonnie Dee I began telling stories as a child. Whenever there was a sleepover, I was the designated ghost story teller. I still have a tale printed on yellow legal paper in second grade about a ghost, a witch and a talking cat. Writing childish stories for my own pleasure led to majoring in English at college. Like most English majors, I dreamed of writing a novel, but at that point in my life didn't have the necessary focus and follow through.
A husband and children occupied the next twenty years. It was only in 2000 that I began writing again. Fanfiction helped me reawaken that creative facet of my life. Having an already created world and characters to play with makes it easy for a writer to work at the other aspects of the craft. I was content with my fanfic writing for a couple of years before deciding it was time to create my own worlds. Since discovering the world of e-publishing and getting my start at Liquid Silver Books, I never stopped writing. I now have the confidence to say, "I am a writer," and the published works to prove it.

A note from Bonnie...
BUTTERFLY UNPINNED is co-written with Laura Bacchi. Here's a little more information about Laura:
My 11th grade Psychology teacher predicted I would be a writer one day. I don't think this was what she had in mind... I'm just a gal who likes writing dirty tales. Some are romantic. Some are raw. From kink to vanilla, het to yummy man-love, sci-fi to contemp, I write whatever I want. I've been called unreliable. Indecisive. A wild card. I like wild cards. They help me win at poker.
An Interview with Bonnie Dee

HH: Bonnie, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured book, Butterfly Unpinned.BD: Butterfly Unpinned is available at Samhain Publishing in all e-book formats. It will be available in print later. Here's a blurb:
Butterfly chose slavery, but now it's time for her to fly free.
Butterfly wants kink. But she wants the kind of hardcore, edgy kink that will completely change her life. And she gets it…with the wrong guy.

HH: How did this collaboration with author Laura Bacchi come about? BD: When deciding to write this story, I wasn't too familiar with writing BDSM and wanted to partner with another author with more experience. Laura Bacchi is a fellow Liquid Silver author whose style seemed similar enough to mine that I thought we could work well together. I approached her, she accepted and we went on this extended "date". I've found that I love writing with others and have been doing it a lot recently. Marie Treanor and I have a series of fairytale-based romances which will be released at Samhain, beginning with Cinderella Unmasked in September. I'm also writing a novel with Summer Devon.
HH: This is an in depth exploration of the D/s lifestyle with the perspective of a third party on the relationship. Where did you get the idea for this fascinating tale? BD: I was reading about an extreme BDSM lifestyle based on John Norman's science fiction novels set in the male-dominated world of Gor. It inspired the idea of a woman in an unhealthy 24/7 master-slave relationship, who has completely lost her sense of identity, and the man who helps her free herself. Let me say upfront that Butterfly Unpinned isn't meant to knock anyone's BDSM lifestyle, but to show the difference between "safe, sane and consensual" role playing and psychological abuse. It's also meant to show a very romantic BDSM relationship between the protagonist and her hero, Bryan.
HH: What do you like best about Bryan's character? BD: I like that he's warm, earthy and works with his hands. He's one of those physically big and strong guys who's incredibly artistic and gentle-a perfect partner for vulnerable Butterfly. He has past issues to overcome and a sense of self-worth he needs to achieve just like our heroine. Plus, on a purely shallow level, I think this Native American hero is extremely hot.
HH: What was this collaboration like for you and what do you and your coauthor think of the completed project? BD: I tossed out the initial idea. Together we hammered out a framework, cause you can't really "panster" plot when you're writing with someone. You both have to be in agreement about where you're heading. Then we passed the manuscript back and forth, chapter by chapter. At first we thought we might break it up by male/female, each of us taking one character. But it simply didn't work out that way and that turned out to be fine. We're both pleased with the end product. When it was time to re-read the manuscript for editing, I was able to enjoy the story simply as a story-as if I was merely a reader. That's how I judge whether something really works or not.
HH: What else do you have coming up for lucky readers? BD: I have many books and novellas coming in 2009.
At Liquid Silver Books I have a short story in an anthology called Prime Passions, all stories with the theme of older women/younger men. A Hearing Heart is the child of my heart, a full length novel about a mute stablehand and a school teacher in 1901 Nebraska, who overcome class obstacles to be together.
From Samhain I have the aforementioned Cinderella Unmasked, which tells readers the story of an older and wiser Cinderella and how she finds real love as opposed to a girlish romantic crush on a shallow prince. The Thief and the Desert Flower is a great fantasy, inspired by a scene in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. A desert nomad kidnaps a princess from her caravan and a battle of the sexes ensues.
Sky Flyer is another opposites attract story, male/male this time, about a downed rebel pilot on an occupied planet and the farmer who shelters him as he heals.
I also have a male/male book coming at Loose Id. Cage Match is a sci fi fantasy about a rich young man who goes to, you guessed it, a cage match and ends up bringing home one of the fighters. Very sexy and another opposites attract story because you can never have enough of those.
And beyond that in 2010? A lot more!
HH: What's your favorite part of the creative process in writing?
BD: The beginning. I wrote a blog post about how writing is like golf. The best part is driving from the tee. A big swoop and the ball sails out there. Then you have to start slogging along, stroke by terrible stroke, trying to dig yourself out of the rough-that's the rest of the story after that first gorgeous idea bubble bursts. I find it very easy to hammer out thousands of words at the beginning, but then the plot gets more tricky and a lot of threads need to be woven together and I'm already getting bored and ready to move on to something else. This is why I love writing with a partner. Every time the manuscript comes back there's another big chunk finished, which you can simply enjoy reading (and editing), and it inspires me all over again. I'm ready to carry on. There's a partner to help with the plot and to make sure the logic and character development all works..
HH: What challenges do you face at this point in your career?
BD: One look at my backlist would tell anyone that I'm all over the map as far as genres and heat levels. Apparently, in order to really drive sales you should concentrate on a little thing called "author branding". People want to know exactly what to expect when they pick up one of your novels. With me, it could be about any topic. Probably it's way past time that I settled down to one genre and concentrated on it. I'm trying to do that to an extent with this fairytale series Marie and I are working on.
I also find keeping the sex scenes fresh a challenge. There's only so many ways to describe the sex act when you come right down to it, and it can be difficult to think of fresh descriptors without turning into purple prose.
HH: What are you reading now? BD: I've been reading the Rob Thurman books: Nightlife, Moonshine and Mad House. But even though I've read them all, I can't say I'm in love with them. I like the concept. I like the clever prose. But sometimes it seems she beats the theme of "I have demon blood in me, I'm not worthy" over the head with a baseball bat. Also, although there is a slight romance, it's not near enough of a one to satisfy me. Too much action, not enough romance. Kind of like Supernatural, except in that at least you have Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki to gape at.
HH: What are your plans for the summer? BD: Swim in my pool. Write. Enjoy being warm for a change. My husband and I are celebrating our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary in August and will have a little party for that-nothing fancy, probably just a potluck with friends.
HH: Thank you!
