Reviews for In His Mind

"Adam and Parker are two fun characters to watch when it comes to a bit of cat and mouse chasing. Parker has the upper hand, seeing that Adam cannot really hide his true desires; what I wouldn’t do to have the gift of telepathy. Ms. Dragon delivers a fast-paced paranormal story, which makes me wish for more, and the way the story ended leads me to believe I will get my wish. The sex was deliciously erotic and the characters create a wonderful couple. I’m looking forward to reading more of Ms. Dragon’s books in the near future." - 4.5 Nymphs, Scandalous Minx, Literary Nymphs

An Interview with Cheryl Dragon
By Holly for The Romance Studio

HH: Cheryl, thanks for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured book, In His Mind.

CD: In His Mind is book three of the Rayne Paranormal Investigations Series...

Adam Rayne is in serious trouble. The hot new guy at work is interested in him. Even worse, Parker Mullins is a telepath and can read every X-rated thought Adam has. Assigned to a case together for Rayne Paranormal Investigations, he and Parker are barely through the door when they give in. The case demands attention but so do the issues that have kept them apart. The sex makes Adam more sure of himself and ready to face any ghost with Parker’s help. But can he face his family with the truth and keep his job, family and the man he loves once this case is over?

HH: Being able to read the mind of someone who desires you, has to be the ultimate turn on. Where did you get the idea for Adam and Parker's story?

CD: In a paranormal, anything can and does happen. For the Raynes, a telepathic boyfriend fits right in. I wanted to explore the repression and revelation when there is no question about feelings. Being sure your feelings are returned makes it seem easy but feelings are always complicated.

HH: What's the challenge for you, as the author, to create a story with strong paranormal elements?

CD: With paranormals, it's all about creating the world and the rules for it. And then following those rules. If you break your own rules, the reader loses faith fast and the fantasy is broken. So always keeping the rules in mind and remaining true to the paranormal world created is the biggest challenge and I love a challenge:)

HH: What do you like best about Adam and why is he perfect for Parker?

CD: Adam is very close with his siblings, they work together in the family business of investigating the paranormal. But Adam also wants love and fears outing himself will upset the balance in the family/work environment. Being very tight with his brothers, he has never really been alone in order to be free of the family expecations. Parker works in the family business and is well liked. He is also out and direct, things Adam admires and needs in his life. Parker is perfect to help Adam out of his shell and yet fits into the world he loves. Parker has no family so he longs for what Adam has and understands why Adam doesn't want to jeopardize it.

HH: You've written more than one story featuring characters with special abilities. What draws you to these type of stories?

CD: Don't we all wish we were psychic, telepathic, immortal, magical, or otherwise gifted? We believe it'd make our life better, easier, or just more fun! It'd fix our problems (just like winning the lotto) but the stories show me that problems and insecurities never go away and all that stuff still happens gifts or not. And these stories give me knew and different problems to throw at my characters.

HH: Why do you think the paranormal is so popular in all genres of fiction at the moment?

CD: Paranormal is a broad term. From vamps to immortals, classic werewolves to shifters, psychics to demon hunters....all of these fall under the paranormal umbrella. So at any given time one of those will be hot. Trends in paranormal come and go but paranomal is so big and includes so much that readers are willing to look at it and see if it's something up their alley. People want to believe there is something extra out there...

HH: What's the biggest mistake you could make in writing paranormal fiction?

CD: It's always hard to keep your finger on the pulse of trends. In paranormal it might be shifters now and go to vampires next. It's never really a mistake to write a good paranormal story but if psychics are popular (like Medium) vs. demon hunters (like Buffy), writers have to take that into account. Of course in a month it could all change.

HH: What else do you have in the works for lucky readers?

CD: In April, Defying the Moon===a m/m werewolf prequel to Outsmarting the Moon releases at Ellora's Cave.

In May, Her Boyfriend's Boyfriend====a contemporary menage releases at Loose Id.

HH: What, in your career, are the events you're looking forward to in 2009?

CD: RT 2009 in Orlando....April in florida!!

Lori Foster's Weekend in June.

Romanticon in October.

I'll be siging stuff at all three so stop by and say Hello!!

HH: Of all of your upcoming releases, which one are YOU most excited about?

CD:Defying the Moon is a m/m werewolf coming April 1st from EC. It's the prequel to Outsmarting the Moon and super hot!! Love the cover:)
