Cassandra Carr

Ryan Tomasi feels like a failure. His marriage is officially over; the ink dried on the divorce decree. His friend Jack introduces him to BDSM and he agrees to attend a Halloween party at a club. A submissive approaches him, offering herself, and how can he refuse the kneeling beauty? They do a whirlwind scene and Ryan is addicted -- both to dominance and to her.

Lisette Rinaldo is returning to the BDSM club for the first time since ending a bad relationship with her former master. She spots Ryan and is taken by the combination of self-assurance and nervousness the man displays as he takes in his surroundings. And after he gives her an incredible re-introduction to the lifestyle, she knows she needs to see the man again.

Ryan and Lisette explore each other and the lifestyle, but what started out as playtime quickly evolves into something more. The problem? Ryan isn’t ready to get serious again and Lisette doesn’t want to fall in love with a guy who can’t give all of himself to her. Both of them are going to have to break out of the bonds holding them back from happiness.

An Interview with Cassandra Carr
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Cassandra, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Master Class and features two very special characters who really need each other. Where did you get the idea for their emotionally-engaging story?

CC: Thanks for having me! With Master Class, I wanted a Dom who was atypical -- so many of the BDSM books out there have Doms who never doubt themselves, have been in the lifestyle for years, etc. I wanted Ryan to be new, to be discovering all the different facets of BDSM, but to not feel confident all the time. And I wanted to give him a sub who WAS experienced and who could kind of guide him through his discovery process.

HH: What do you like best about Lisette and why will readers empathize with her?

CC: Her competence. She's not weak in any way. She has a great job that she steps up to the plate with when there's a crisis, and though she's not a size 2 she's proud of her body and not hiding it from the world.

HH: What do you like best about Ryan and why will readers love him?

CC: Oh gosh, this is a hard question! I tend to love love love my heroes, and Ryan was no exception! I loved how once he decided he was comfortable with something he could slip into that Dom-mode and be really sexy and enticing, but then pull back in the middle and start to question himself. I think that makes him really human.

HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story and what do you think readers will take away from it?

CC: This story was literally ripped out of me. That's never happened before. I wrote the entire 45,000-word first draft in ten days. I'm a fast writer and even that was ridiculously fast. I think the thing I enjoyed the most was how especially Jack, the Dom from my book Caught, would NOT leave me alone until I made him a major character again. Jack's another one of my favorite heroes, so that wasn't a hardship.

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

CC: *takes deep breath* In the latter portion of 2012 I had four releases, and I have two more in January - the 15th and the 18th. Then in February I have two more - the 6th and the 26th I think? Of these late 2012/early 2013 releases there's the third book in my Buckin' Bull Riders series, a novella with a femdom theme, an erotic spoof anthology, Master Class, and my first m/m story.

HH: How does 2013 promise to be different from 2012 for you?

CC: Oh wow. Well, I already have nine projects lined up for 2013, so that's definitely different from 2012. And though I'm certainly not resting on my laurels, I feel a little more comfortable with my publishers, so I feel more confident as I'm writing that I'm not wasting my time.

HH: Where do you find inspiration for your stories?

CC: Everywhere and nowhere. For a standalone book for Ellora's Cave I literally saw a profile picture of an EC Caveman on Facebook and the entire plot for a novella spread out in front of me. Just like that, there it was.

HH: What's your writing schedule like?

CC: Ha! What writing schedule? Unless you call "write with every spare moment you have" a writing schedule, I have none. I only have part-time childcare for my 4yo and I find it difficult to write while she's at home, so I write mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays when my mother-in-law watches her and Friday when me and my mom (who's also a writer - Cynthia Racette) go to a local cafe and write while my dad watches my daughter.

HH: What's your favorite way to interact with readers?

CC: I'm not picky. Email, Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads. Whatever. I love talking to readers! I know sometimes readers are shy about approaching us. Please don't be. We do this for you. And if you love something we've done, tell us! It makes our day.

HH: What are you most looking forward to in 2013?

CC: I'm looking forward to putting out more books that my readers will hopefully love, finding new readers, and moving my career forward. I have a new agent and hopefully some exciting things on the horizon!

Thanks for having me!

HH: Thank you!
