An Interview with the Tina Donahue

HH: Tina, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Take Me Away. Where did you get the idea for this smoldering tale of two people who have more in common than they think?
TD: Hey, hon, thanks for having me.
I was watching the news one night and caught the court appearance of Lindsay Lohan. I started thinking that she seemed to have everything – great looks, youth, money, fame -- and yet she looked so sad. Everything seemed to be crashing down on her. I started thinking about the dark side of fame and what it would do to a young woman who didn't want it, who hungered for someone to really love her... not her money or her celebrity. With that, the plot of Take Me Away simply took off.
HH: What can you tell us about Lexi and why will readers be drawn to her?
TD: No matter her fame and money, Lexi's had it hard. She was pushed into acting by her parents who've been supported by her since she was a little kid. She's been the target of tabloids that criticize everything she does. Frankly, she can't win. But she's strong and feisty, and very protective of her younger sister. Lexi's no Hollywood diva. She's a sweet young woman who wants someone to be on her side for once. At the lowest point in her life, she meets Kyle. He's everything she's hungered for and more.
HH: What can you tell us about Kyle and why will readers love him?
TD: Well hey, he's an ex-NFL quarterback and alpha through and through, need I say more? Seriously though, Kyle's a great guy. Witty, sharp, honorable, and oh-so-taken with Lexi, the real Lexi, not the image that's been manufactured for her.
HH: What else do you have in the works?
TD: This October, my second paranormal Unending Desire will be released by Samhain. I'm currently working on another contemporary erotic romance, and after that I'll start writing my next erotic paranormal.
HH: How have your other life and work experiences affected your romance writing career?
TD: I've worked since I was four, so I learned early on that I had to be professional and persistent to achieve anything.
As a child, I modeled professionally, so I know firsthand what Lexi's gone through: lost opportunities to be a kid, having to act like an adult when you're only a child, being judged on your looks rather than what's in your heart or head, being treated like a commodity. My experiences helped quite a bit in writing Take Me Away.
HH: What would you most like to accomplish in your career this year?
TD: Finishing my two WIPs, satisfying my fans with the stories I've written, and winning another award or two would also be nice. =)
HH: Do you own an ebook reader or read on an electronic device? If so, what?
TD: I actually read ebooks on my computer. I have this big slouchy chair that I can sink into and I don't have to hold anything. Really comfortable.
HH: As a romance reader, what sort of stories do you personally prefer?
TD: HEAs and HFN are absolutely essential. I also want to be swept away by the romances. To sigh, laugh, cry and cheer for the characters.
HH: What's your favorite guilty pleasure?
TD: Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. I can't live without it. The darker and more bittersweet the better. I absolutely crave it every single day.
HH: Any vacation or appearance plans this summer?
TD: What's a vacation? LOL. I'm so busy writing and working my EDJ, I feel pretty lucky if I can take the weekend off.
