Reviews for Elemental Fire
“...this book combined action, threats, a demon, sexy connections and a coven of witches who are as engaging and entertaining as they are amusing. The pairings are super-hot and sexy, with detail and sensuality that brings a tingle to the reader, as well as feeds the general love and affection that all members of the coven display to one another.” The Jeep Diva
“I had been waiting since last year in suspense for the third and last in the trilogy and jeeze was it worth the wait! A dramatic, heart pounding, fast paced ending with a twist.” Midnight Boudoir

An Interview with K.D. Grace
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: K D, thank you for talking with us at TRS. You featured story is Elemental Fire, which is part of your Lakeland Heatwave series. What can you tell us about this wonderful series?
KD: Thanks so much for having me on TRS. It’s a pleasure to be here. The Lakeland Heatwave trilogy began its life as a NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) project, an attempt to write my first ever erotic novel. It was paranormal because of a very eerie experience my husband and I had while doing a high ridge walk in the fells of England’s Lake District. The weather turned on us, and we found ourselves walking in mist so heavy that we could barely see our hands in front of our faces. We had to navigate off the mountain using compass and map. It wasn’t difficult to imagine demons and ghosts and witches in such conditions, nor was it difficult to imagine being in the ether when suddenly everything we were familiar with had vanished.
After that it was another several years before I offered the novel to Xcite Books, and it was only after they had agreed to publish it that I realized it really needed to be a trilogy because the story I wanted to tell was way too big for one novel.
The story doesn’t have the usual paranormal elements of vampires and werewolves. I felt inadequate to tackle either, since they had already been done so well. Because I had experienced life in a Wiccan coven, I liked the idea of working with witches, ghosts, demons oh, and a succubus. And wow! What a romp it’s turned out to be!
HH: What can you tell us about the first two books in the series?
KD: Each of the first two novels involves bringing a new members into the Elemental Coven, which has been decimated by its arch-enemy, Deacon, who is a very, very nasty demon. The first two novels are about the coven’s growing strength, which it will most definitely need to fight Deacon and win. Since the coven’s magic is sex magic, a great deal of the story is about that sexual bonding and about, not only the strength that each new member brings into the coven, but also the baggage they must jettison before they can face Deacon in the final battle, before they can allow themselves to become a part of the coven family.
The first novel, Body Temperature and Rising, is the story of Tim Meriwether, a young Cumbrian farmer, who is drawn into the coven under horrible circumstances; and Marie Warren, an American transplant who has left her insane life in the banking world to recover some peace and sanity, only to discover she has inadvertently opened Pandora’s box.
The second novel, Riding the Ether, is the story of Cassandra Larkin, a succubus who doesn’t know what she is. She only knows she’s dangerous. When she teams up with the Elemental Coven and its resident ghost, Anderson, she finds that not only can she have love, but she can help the coven in their battle against Deacon, who is most definitely interested in her and her gifts.
HH: How does Elemental Fire continue it?
KD: Through all three novels, it’s the intrepid high priestess and leader of the coven, Tara stone, who holds the embattled coven together and stands against Deacon, knowing that everything he does is calculated to hurt her. Book three introduces Kennet Lucian, a man who is so desperate to get revenge upon Deacon that he’s willing to allow himself to be possessed by another demon, Lucia, in order to achieve his goal. But Lucia has her own agenda and it involves Tara Stone and the Elemental Coven. It does NOT involve Kennet and Tara falling in love, nor does it take into account Deacon’s own secret agenda.
HH: What do you like about Tara and why will readers identify with her?
KD: I think the very best thing about Tara is that, as wounded and damaged as she is, she simply gets on with it. She does what she has to do and she never, ever lets anything stand in the way of her fierce love and protectiveness of the coven family she loves. The three- book journey has laid her bare and wounded her to the core and yet she is a powerhouse with a tender heart that she keeps well-hidden. Most of the time. She’s a passionate lover and a powerful warrior, and yet until Kennet comes into the picture, there’s a part of her that she never allows to be touched because she desperately fears the cost.
HH: What do you like about the hero and why will readers love him?
KD: I think the readers will love Kennet’s flaws, and his willingness to do whatever he has to in order to end Deacon’s reign of terror. I think readers will love his recklessness with his own safety in order to protect others. His fierceness in battle and yet his tenderness with Tara make him the perfect hero, I think. He has every reason to be bitter. He has every reason to be fearful, especially since he lives constantly in the presence of the demon who possesses him. And yet he throws that all aside, even defies Lucia, the demon, to protect Tara and to prove his worth to her and to the coven. I think readers will love Kennet because he’s willing to endure what he has to in order to make things right, and he’s got no illusions about who he is in the scheme of things. He’s tough, unassuming and knows how to think on his feet. And because he lives with constantly with a demon, all sex with him and Tara is automatically a threesome, making the act of intimacy a real challenge.
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?
KD: There are surprises in store at every turn. There’s big surprise about our resident succubus, Cassandra Larkin, which will change the Elemental Coven on a fundamental level. Deacon has a serious surprise for Tara. Of course the book is full of hot sex and developing twists and turns in relationships. Tara has to learn to love again. And most frightening of all, Deacon finds a way to get at the very heart of the Elemental Coven in a bold move that even Tara could never have guessed. It’s a fun, sexy romp that I hope will have readers breathlessly perched on the edge of their seats till the very last page.
HH: What would you most like to accomplish in your writing career this year?
KD: What I want most, what I always want, is to tell a story that people will be gripped by, that people will be entertained by. And I want to tell that story well. I have two novels to finish this year. The one I’m working on now is book three of my alter-ego, Grace Marshall’s Executive Decisions Trilogy, The Exhibition. Then it’s on the sequel to my first novel, The Initiation of Ms Holly. Fulfilling the Contract, book two, is set in Vegas with lots of exciting, sexy adventures. I’m very much looking forward to that.
HH: What hobbies or interests do you have outside of your writing?
KD: My two biggies are veg gardening and long-distance walking. My husband and I now have an allotment, so veg gardening has just taken on a HUGE new dimension, and a much larger chunk of time, in our lives. But we’re enjoying the challenge -- most of the time. And, of course, we’re loving the fresh veg!
Two years ago we did the Wainwright Coast to Coast walk across England, which was definitely one of the highlights of our lives – we both agree. It was two weeks averaging fourteen miles a day. It was incredible. We took gazillions of pictures and I blogged about the journey and I’m so glad now that I did. We’re now training to do another eleven day walk in the Lake District next year with any luck. I’m recovering from a knee injury, so it’s been a bit dicey.
