An Interview with Selena Illyria
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Selena, thank you for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Renny's Mate and it is one hot tale that is a perfect read for spring and summer. Where did the idea for this smoking hot romance come from?
SI: Thank You very much! Etopia Press has a fabulous series called Beach Bums, which was inspired by all those yummy Aussie Bum commercials. I knew I wanted to do a werewolf story and I wanted to set it on an island and then the characters just showed up.
HH: What can you tell us about Larissa and what makes her unique among your heroines? SI: Larissa works as a secretary for Renny's brother William at the family company. She has ambition to learn more and improve her job standings. After working hard without complaint for a long time she gets offered a chance at a vacation on her boss' private island. I think Larissa is the most forward of my heroines.
HH: What can you tell us about Renny and why reader will love him? SI: Renny is the black sheep of the family. He just didn't fit in and take orders. He has a mind of his own but has come back to try and make amends and make connections to his family. Renny is a sweetheart but does have wicked ideas. He wants to connect to his family to do right by them but isn't willing to just toe the line.
HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story and will there be any connected tales? SI: I loved building the relationships in the story from Renny and his brother to Renny and Larissa. I do want to write a story for William and I do want to write an expanded story for Renny and Larissa to really explore their relationship.
HH: What else do each of you have in store for lucky readers? SI: I have a reworked story coming out in June with Etopia Press. The story was originally published under the title Mudslide but now is part of a new series called Seven Sins Inn.
HH: How has the romance genre changed since you began writing? SI: I think it's become more diverse, more versatile.
HH: What changes in the market please you most?
SI: That you can write almost anything in the romance genre.
HH: What sources of inspiration do you draw from for ideas?
SI: Music, television, reading, or just looking outside.
HH: What's your favorite book so far in 2012?
SI: So far it has to be Dragon New Year: Dragons at Midnight. It was so much fun to write and just loved the characters
HH: What are you most looking forward to in 2012?
SI: Writing more books!
HH: Thank you!
