Marteeka Karland

Lysander, Calix, and Thanos are warriors currently patrolling inside the Badlands. Unlike most Warriors, they are not podmates, at least, Thanos is not. He was taken by the two older men when his two podmates were killed. The bond among the three of them has grown steadily, but Thanos always holds himself back. He does not share his body freely with the other two men unless the need is so great he can't resist.

Available in April from Changeling Press!
Artemis has been watching the trio for some time. She knows Thanos has a horrible secret about the death of his podmates, but knows he's a good man nonetheless. She's also intrigued that these men are truly Spartan warriors, unlike so many second generation Warriors created by the WCGA. That aside, she's drawn to them and knows they are her true mates.

She just hopes she can break through Thanos's grief and guilt before he does something stupid. Like letting himself get killed.

About Marteeka Karland

Erotic romance author by night, emergency room tech/clerk by day, Marteeka Karland works really hard to drive everyone in her life completely and totally nuts. She has been creating stories from her warped imagination since she was in the third grade. Her love of writing blossomed throughout her teenage years until it developed into the totally unorthodox and irreverent style her English teachers tried so hard to rid her of. Now, she breathes life into faeries, space hunters, werewolves, vampires, shapeshifters, and a few just plane ole ordinary people. She loves to see the awkward, self-conscious band geek get the captain of the football team and make him beg for it.

Marteeka loves pretty pictures. When she was introduced to DAZ Studio, she decided she'd try making her own. Took her a while, but one thing led to another and she eventually got pretty good at it. Her relationship with J and J began in the Fall of 2009 and, together, they've created some pretty amazing images. Marteeka loves to try new techniques and watch her style grow and change at every opportunity. Though she admires many digital artists, Ulf and Angela Knight are two artists she idolizes. Don't tell them though. They might get an idea of how much she dearly loves both of them.

An Interview with Marteeka Karland
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Marteeka, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured story, Spartans, and how it came to be part of the wonderful multi-author series Badland Warriors at Changeling Press.

MK: Spartans is about three warriors battling internal demons and the woman who saves. them by kicking their ass. *snicker* Badland Warriors is the brain child of Shara Azod, my critique partner and all around pest. She invited me (read bullied me) to participate and i really couldn't refuse. (Cause she would probably have strangled me and took away my birthday.)

HH: What do you like about Artemis and why will readers relate to her?

MK: Artemis (Tia) is a strong woman with lots of kick ass-ed-ness. (is that a word?) She can be vulnerable, but is mostly large an in charge. She's the voice of reason when the men are bumfuzzled. I like her because of her strength and feisty nature. She's probably the strongest woman I've ever written. She's not a "domme," but she can dominate when necessary.

HH: What do you like best about Thanos and why will readers love him?

MK: Thanos is the tortured hero. And I mean, who doesn't love the tortured hero? All three of them, really, are tortured, but Thanos more than the others. I think that readers will love him because, despite the fact that he's a fantasy character, there is a very "real" quality about him.

HH: How did the authors go about creating the world for these stories?

MK: Basically, Shara and I got drunk. (That seems to happen quite often when we write.) She had an idea and we slugged it out until she wrote the first book, Vikings. I built on the world a little more in this book and... well, we'll see what happens in the next book.

HH: Will you be writing any more stories for this series?

MK: It's possible. HOWEVER, I'm seriously doubting I'll have another menate' a quatro. It just about broke my brain. *oh my head!*

HH: What else do you have in the works?

MK: I have a book with Shara Azod that we've submitted to Beautiful Trouble Publishing called Claiming Lori. It's another menage' a quatra. Yeah, I'm a glutton for punishment. I don't have a tenative release date or even know for sure that it's been accepted, but I have high hopes. :) I'll also be working on a book for RaeLynn Blue and another for Shara Azod, LLC. I can't give more details until the works are accepted, but I promise you they will be HAWT!

HH: What do you enjoy most about the writing itself?

MK: Staring at a blank screen, cracking my knuckles, and writing the first sentence. There is NOTHING quite as exhilarating as starting a new book. Except maybe finishing it. I enjoy the whole creative process. Writing something, going back to proof read it and realizing, yeah! I wrote that!

HH: What advice would you give to aspiring writers today?

MK: FINISH THE BOOK!!!! You can't do ANYTHING with the story until you finish it. It does no one any good, you can't get published, and you can't quit your day job until you FINISH THE BOOK!

HH: What are you reading right now?

MK: I just finished reading Angela Knight's new book in the Mageverse book. *bouncing!!* Being a writer AND an artist has its perks. I take SHAMELESS advantage of it.

HH: Any fun plans for the summer?

MK: I plan on hanging out at our local water park and getting as sunburned as humanly possible and still be able to sleep at night. *happy sigh* Sunbathing is the BEST therapy for PMDD EVER!!!

HH: Thank you!
