Tara Lain

Geneticist Jake Martin is straight. Why is his cock hard for a man? Model Roan Black doesn't like straight guys in denial, but this one is so sexy. Is there a future for a scientist and a supermodel?

About Tara Lain

Tara Lain never met a beautiful boy she didn't love – at least on paper. A writer of erotic romance, mostly ménage and male/male, Tara loves all her characters, but especially her handsome heroes. A lifelong writer of serious non-fiction, Tara only fell in love with EROM in 2009 and, through perseverance and lots of workshops, had the first novel she ever wrote accepted for publication in 2010. She's now on book six. After an exotic life of travel all over the world and work in television, education and advertising, Tara settled in Southern California with her soul-mate husband and opened her own small marketing business. She paints, collages, and started practicing yoga "way before it was fashionable". Passionate about diversity, justice, inclusion and new ideas she says on her tombstone it will read, "Yes".

My only previously published book is Genetic Attraction from Loose Id. The Scientist and the Supermodel is the prequel to that book. I have another book called Volley Balls coming out next month and two more books contracted with Loose Id for the fall including Deceptive Attraction, the sequel to Genetic Attraction and the Scientist and the Supermodel, and Golden Dancer, my first romantic suspense.

Reviews for Genetic Attraction

"I love the book, between the dialect and the cute phrases I laughed so hard, I was afraid I would wake the hubby. So many clever and quick-witted remarks that just added to the overall story. I did have to put the book down for a minute and get on the computer to find out about the old Kinsey continuum of sexuality, just to see if I could find any input. This story was a wild ride and a lot of "hey what the hell"; I think it was a new and well plan plot, which is why I will be adding Tara Lain to my list of favorite authors. I definitely fell in love with her writing style and imagination. She had such a refreshing plot that will stay with me a long time and I think is well worth the money to add to your library." - Best Book, Myrtle, Whipped Cream Reviews

"Though I normally wouldn't have picked this book up, I'm so glad I won it and read it. I quickly found myself involved with the characters and wondering if a happy ending would be found. Though m/m stories are not something I usually read or like, Roan and Jake's relationship was such that it felt right. Though Jake is only in his 20s, he's on top of things in bed! The details and complexity made this story come to life and feel extremely real and possible.

Thank you Ms. Lain for giving away a copy of this book. You have written an exceptional story and made me a fan. I look forward to your next book." - Terri, Night Owl Book Reviews

An Interview with Tara Lain
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Tara, thank you so much for talking with us. Your featured book is The Scientist and the Supermodel. The title says it all. Where did you get the idea for this sizzling tale?

TL: Thank you so much for having me. The Scientist and the Supermodel, a M/M erotic romance, is the PREquel to my M/M/F contemporary, Genetic Attraction. Genetic Attraction tells the story of a renowned female geneticist and her passion for her younger research partner, Jake Martin. She thinks Jake lives with his girlfriend, but that person turns out to be his boyfriend, the famous supermodel, Roan Black. She goes to visit them for the weekend and it turns into a hot ménage that threatens her carefully structured academic life. When I finished that book, the two men yelled at me until I finally succumbed and told the story of how they met and fell in love. LOL. I just can't resist my boys!

HH: What do you like about Jake and why will readers relate to him?

TL: Jake is like a lot of us, extraordinary in some ways and blind in others –- especially with regard to himself. In his case, he's clinging so hard to a preconceived identity that he can't give it up even when it threatens to lose him the only person who has ever made him completely happy. But at the same time, Jake is wildly smart, funny, loyal, caring and loves fiercely once committed. I call him half geek and half demigod. The product of a big, super-happy, caring family, Jake is spreading his wings at 25 and becoming a man – while falling in love with one.

HH: What do you like best about Roan and why will readers love him?

TL: Sigh. Roan is my baby. Yes, I know it would be hard for this guy to exist in real life, but he's very real to me. Called "the most beautiful man in the world", Roan is rich, successful, and famous but truly wants love, home and family more. He is gentle, submissive though no doormat, intelligent though uneducated, wise and complex. Survivor of a difficult childhood, he wears a tattoo that says, I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself.

HH: What sort of research did you do for this book?

TL: In my day job, I write non-fiction in a number of fields, one of them being medicine. I knew about this particular type of genetic sequencing featured in the book from that experience and used it as a background for Jake (as well as Emmaline in Genetic Attraction). When I was a girl, I worked in fashion plus I've done a lot of photography for clients over the years so Roan's profession was also familiar. And I used to write for colleges and have a lot of friends who are academics, so I drew on that as well.

HH: What else do you have in the works?

TL: Whew, it's going to be a busy few months. On July 1, I have a M/M/M summer romance called Volley Balls being released by Etopia Press. It asks the question "can a gay boy from Laguna find happiness with an Aussie alpha male... or two?" Following that, on September 27, my first romantic suspense, a M/M/M ménage called Golden Dancer, comes out from Loose Id. It's got sons-of-Nazis, an art theft, and even a kidnapping. Loose Id is releasing it as part of their Men of Mystery Special Series. Later in the fall, expect to see Deceptive Attraction, the sequel to The Scientist and the Supermodel and Genetic Attraction. And right now I'm up to my earlobes in a holiday novella plus my first paranormal erotic romance so I've got my work cut out for me.

HH: With the rising popularity of ebook readers and devices like the iPad, what changes do you see coming in the romance genre?

TL: I think the trend that has already begun will continue for awhile – more and more writers will find homes at independent, digital publishers and more readers will realize they can get great books at inexpensive prices from these independent publishers. These publishers will also remain the primary home for subgenre erotic romances such as the M/M and ménage books that I like to write. At the same time, the big New York publishers will continue to see the handwriting on the wall and open their own digital-first shops or acquire an established independent for digital-first publishing. This will allow larger publishers to accept a wider variety of romance subgenres as well. Eventually, there will be some fallout among the smaller digital-only publishers and the numbers of houses will drop some as readers focus on the sources where they get the best content and quality. Or, my crystal ball could be very cloudy. LOL

HH: As a romance reader, what sort of stories do you personally prefer?

TL: I like to read what I write – M/M and ménage erotic contemporary. I also add a bit of paranormal or sci fi. Because I have so little reading time, I confess I go back to the same authors a lot because I know they will totally satisfy me. Still, I do branch out sometimes.

HH: Tell us about the best fan mail (email) you've ever gotten.

TL: I have it right here! LOL. I'm not kidding. I saved it. I received an email from a reader who said, "I am writing to thank you for writing Genetic Attraction!!" She went on to say she LOVED Jake and Roan and Emmaline's story and was thrilled that there would be a prequel and sequel. And she hoped for more after that. She ended "Thank you, thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with me." I can't repeat the whole email but it's the kind that makes a writer cry –- and want to write a million sequels!

HH: What are your favorite hobbies/activities these days?

TL: Let's see, I write .. and then I write. I used to paint and do collage which I love, but writing fiction is a serious stress-reliever for me. It allows me to walk into my worlds and leave whatever problems I may have behind for a while.

HH: Any vacation or appearance plans this summer?

TL: I'm planning to write all summer and then take off for New Orleans in October to attend the GayRomLit gathering. It sounds like a ton of fun and it may also afford this California girl a chance to go on and visit friends in Florida afterwards. But a lot of words need to be produced before then!

HH: Thank you!
