About JM Madden

Terminally addicted to romances, thanks to finding her aunt's stash of ‘Harlequin Presents' years ago during a sleepover, J.M. Madden loves any and all good love stories. Most particularly her own. She has two beautiful children and a husband who always keeps her on her toes.

J.M. was a Deputy Sheriff in Ohio for nine years, until hubby moved the family to Kentucky. When not chasing the family around, she's at the computer, reading and writing, trying to perfect her craft. She occasionally takes breaks to feed her animal horde, and is trying to control her office-supply addiction, but both tasks are uphill battles. Happily, she is unemployed right now, so it's given her a chance to seriously jump into writing full-time. She has several projects in the works and loves to hear from readers.

An Interview with JM Madden
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: JM, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Wet Dream. What can you tell us about this steamy story that's part of the 1NightStand series?

JM: Well, I'll give you the blurb first.

Ex-FBI agent Ginger Hampton is not surprised when her date is a no show. Madame Evangeline, owner of 1NightStand promised her a perfect night…but Ginger is used to disappointment in love. The fact that she's six feet tall, model perfect and owns her own high-end security firm tends to intimidate men. In spite of herself, she'd had high hopes for this date.

Madame Eve's email had told him to watch for a woman in distress, and the woman at the bar is exactly that. Chief of Security Cameron Jones doesn't see himself as a hero, but he's willing to check on a special guest for his boss. He doesn't realize until he sees her face that it's Ginger Hampton, his own personal weak spot. She's not turned off by his brutal scarring, and even flirts as if she's interested. When he escorts her to her room, does he have the balls to respond to her interest, and stay the night? How can he say no to... his own personal wet dream?

Wet Dream was a lot of fun to write. I've never written for a set frame of details like this, and it was a challenge in that respect. But the situation and characters came to me easily. Both characters have their own scars, but I think they became stronger people because of them.

HH: How did you come to be part of this sensation series at Decadent Publishing?

JM: I have a previous book with them, titled Second Time Around. It's a contemporary with erotic elements, and was my debut as an author. I submitted it to Decadent, and within days I had an acceptance. I loved working with everybody there. They were very accommodating and willing to help a new author. When they put out the call for the 1NS series, I jumped at the chance to write for them again.

HH: What can you tell us about Ginger and why will readers identify with her?

JM: Ginger is a complex woman. Professionally, she owns her own security business, and she's had to be strong to compete in a man's world. But it's not always how she wants to be. She's struck out on the relationship front. So in spite of her looks, she's insecure. For one night, she wants to be feminine and coddled. She hopes that by going through 1NightStand, she'll be able to bypass all the obstacles that normally derail a first date.

Problem is, her date never shows up.

HH: What can you tell us about Cameron and why will readers love him?

JM: Cameron is a soldier wounded in Iraq. He's a nice guy who can't imagine somebody as beautiful as Ginger even looking at him twice, because of the injuries he received in the war. Being in the security business himself, he's seen Ginger in magazines. When he realizes she'd been stood up, he has to decide whether or not he can overcome his own insecurity to be with her. The chance to be with his very own wet dream sways him.

HH: What sort of research went into this story?

JM: Not research, per se, but I have dealt with some burn issues. I was a deputy sheriff for years, and doing that job you see a lot of terrible things, including burns and injuries. And with the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, we're already beginning to see more wounded vets in the community. They are valiant men and women, and deserve as much chance, or more, at love as the tall, good looking stereotypes.

HH: What else do you have in the works?

JM: I have several things running right now! I have a winter themed novella coming out with Bonaparte Press this fall, and an erotica with Turquoise Morning Press. I'm currently working on a dragon themed romance series I hope to publish myself. Oh, and I have another Christmas story I hope to place somewhere. And possibly another 1NS later on. Jeez! I just reminded myself how busy I am!

HH: Do you own an ebook reader or read on an electronic device? If so, what?

JM: I do. 3 actually. I have a Kindle my sister-in-law gave me, but I also have a Droid, which has both a Kindle and Nook application. I read as often as I can with those. But I tell ya, it's hard to keep up with all the great stories coming out right now!

HH: As a romance reader, what sort of stories do you personally prefer?

JM: I love contemporary, and paranormal. I tend to choose 'Beauty and the Beast' themes, because I love tortured men. Sorry guys. And I love situations that are out of the ordinary.

HH: What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

JM: Venti white chocolate iced mochas from Starbucks. Seriously addicted. I live way out in the boonies of Kentucky, so when I get a chance to indulge, I do. And there's no way to make a good one at home. (Although recipes are appreciated!)

HH: Any vacation or appearance plans this summer?

JM: OWell, my family already took a vacation to Pigeon Forge area this year. As for appearances, I may going to the Central Ohio Fiction Writers conference coming up in Columbus in September. It depends on if I get a break in my writing!

HH: Thank you!
