An Interview with B.J. McCall
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: B.J., thank you for talking with us at TRS! Your featured book is Mirror Mirror: Nightwing and is part of a multi-author series at Changeling Press. How did you come to be part of this project?BJ: The publisher of Changeling tossed out a series idea to her authors. "You get in the elevator and on the way up to your suite you see the man of your dreams in the mirror, trapped. When you put a hand on the mirror you find yourself on the other side. Encounter layered with trying to get back through to the other side. True Love will set you free -- if you want to go back."
Authors jumped on it and the ideas began to zing for Mirror Mirror. I joined into the fray.
HH: What can you tell us about the series? BJ: In each story a character is in the Void/Dimension/Rift, the other plane of existence and must cross through the mirror. Only true love will give them a second chance. The experience in the Void is unique to each author's character. The mirrored elevator is in the Tavoro Sands Resort in Suva City, Fiji.
With such wonderful authors like Kate Hill, Alice Gaines, Elizabeth Jewell, J. Hali Steele and Anne Kane the series produced great stories.
HH: Where does Nightwing fit in? BJ: My hero, Adam, pushes a beautiful stranger out of the path of a speeding car, but is fatally struck. His act of heroism earns him a place in the Void as a Nightwing. He's not an angel, but he's not in hell.
A year after Adam's death, Eva enters a resort elevator and sees her savior in the mirror.
HH: What can you tell us about Eva and why will readers relate to her? BJ: Saved by a stranger, Eva questions why she survived and he died. She learns he's a thief, but cannot forget him. Her dreams are haunted by his handsome face, but he's always beyond her reach.
While vacationing in Fiji, she sees Adam trapped behind the mirror. When he holds out his hand, Eva reaches through the glass and takes it. She can't resist and is drawn into the void, and into his arms. Despite his past Eva believes in Adam's goodness and follows her heart.
HH: What can you tell us about Adam and why will readers love him? BJ: Adam grew up in the streets and learned to survive by living on the bad side of the law, but when Eva steps in front of the speeding car, his soul and heart take charge. As a Nightwing he must search the Void for his mirror, one that will allow him to see the real world. To get back, he must find someone who believes in him. His soul is tested again when he must send Eva back and face living in the Void alone for eternity.
He's a bad boy with a good heart and a soul worth saving.
HH: What else do you have in the works? BJ: I'm writing a Christmas story for Changeling Press, a werewolf tale titled Holiday Moon. I'm writing another story, the second in my Dragonfire series for Changeling.
Pirate's Prize, a print anthology, will be published by Ellora's Cave and will include my ebook, Scarlet Tear and Pirate's Woman by Paige Tyler.
HH: How do you personally view the future of ebooks? BJ: I think electronic media is here to stay. The convenience and capacity of electronic readers is like a library in your hand. I read books on my Kindle and my iPad.
HH: How much of your day is devoted to your writing career? BJ: As much time as I can steal. The creative and the business sides each require time. I try to write every day.
HH: What's your favorite way to interact with readers? BJ: I enjoy the events TRS puts on. I love reading the comments. I have a yahoo group. I invite readers to email me and tell how they liked or disliked a book. I can be contacted through my website.
Thanks for the interview.
HH: Thank you!
