An Interview with Ann Raina
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Ann, thank you for talking with us at TRS. You featured story is Lovers in the Wood. Where did you get the idea for this emotionally-charged Science Fiction story?

AR: Thank you for inviting me. I had the idea on a long ride through the woods around my hometown. Wherever I went, there were strange sounds and noises of which I could not easily determine their origin. Put in a Science Fiction surrounding, you have the idea of a dense forest with alien inhabitants which might be friend or foe. It’s the first novel in which horses play a role. It just had to happen after all the years I’ve spent with these animals.

HH: What do you like about Rayenne and why will readers identify with her?

AR: Rayenne is a police officer thrown into an exceptional situation. She is determined to do her job and yet she partly relies on the convict’s experience in the woods. First it galls her, but she quickly understands that they must rely on each other to survive. I think that a woman can always have both—be good in her job and admit that she cannot know and do everything. Additionally, there is a great deal of affection mixing in and once she agrees that she truly loves Sajitar, she’s not shy to show it.

HH: What do you like about Sajitar and why will readers love him?

AR: He is accused of a crime and on the run. He tries to make the best out of the situation and not get killed. However, when Rayenne takes him on the journey through the mighty woods, he quickly realizes that running away is no longer an option. He would never leave Rayenne behind. He is even willing to do much more than just protecting her.

HH: What makes this story different from your other works?

AR: Most of the time, Rayenne and Sajitar are alone amid strange creatures. They proceed through a dangerous area, not knowing if they will make it. I stick with the two persons and their point of view. That way you get very close to the two protagonists and come to know them very well.

HH: What do you think readers will enjoy most about this romance?

AR: It comes out of the blue. She doesn’t want to fall in love with a convict. He wants to get away and bring as much distance between a cop and himself as possible. And yet they are on the way together and finally realize that parting is no longer an option.

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

AR: I finished two more Sci Fi romance novels, another one is a work in progress. Since I gave up writing in German, I have more time for the novels for eXtasy Books.

HH: What goals have you set for yourself this year?

AR: I want to finish the work at hand and hope that more ideas will hit me. I don’t plan too much since real life always shows up and demands turns and twists. So far, the year went splendid and I hope to keep it that way.

HH: What hobbies or interests do you have outside of your writing?

AR: I’ve been riding for years, just bought a horse and use every spare hour to sit on horseback. I also read a lot and work in my garden. The rain this year is awful. It ruins the blossoms and gives weed a head start to grow over everything else.

HH: What's your favorite quote ever?

AR: Carpe diem! Get the things done today that you want to do. Never wait for tomorrow. That’s what I recommend to everyone. No one knows what our life has in store and we should not look back with regret that we missed opportunities.

HH: What's your favorite social media and how to use it to let readers know about your books?

AR: I joined Facebook to stay in touch with readers, writers and other friends to let them know about releases and news, not only concerning my books. I’m proud to be a part of the large community. You find me here: And you can always check out my works at

HH: Thank you!
