About Zenobia Renquist

Zenobia Renquist lives in her imagination. When not traveling through her fantasy worlds, she can be found in Hawaii living with her husband and two cats.

She is an Air Force brat turned Air Force wife, which means she's accustomed to travel and does it whenever possible. Her favorite pastime is torturing her characters on their way to happily-ever-after for the enjoyment of her readers.

On the few occasions her muse flees the scene of the crime, Zenobia likes to read (comics, manga, and romance), go to the movies, play a few levels of whichever puzzle game has hijacked her interest or experiment with a new chain maille weave.

An Interview with Zenobia Renquist
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Zenobia, thank you for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is CREAM and it's part of the On the Hunt series at Ellora’s Cave. How did you come to be part of this series?

ZR: Thanks for having me. I love TRS and all you do for authors and readers alike. The On the Hunt series is a collection of bounty hunter-themed titles from various Ellora's Cave authors. Ever so often Ellora's Cave sends out submissions calls for stories containing a certain theme and On the Hunt was one of those occasions. I simply had the right idea at the right time to answer the call.

HH: How does CREAM fit into this series?

ZR: CREAM is an erotic vampire bounty hunter interracial romance. That's a bit of a mouthful, huh? In CREAM, I introduce readers to a world where vampires are outed and part of society. Every society has criminals. For those vampires that don't want to follow the rules, there are Enforcers -- vampires who hunt other vampires for money. Every Enforcer has to be teamed with a human necromancer (the humans way of being part of the process), hence the reason Teaghan and Jeliyah have been thrown together.

HH: Why will readers like Jeliyah?

ZR: Jeliyah is strong, inquisitive and trying to prove she's better than the status the necromancers have given her. Each necromancer has a status from high-high to low-low. Jeliyah is a high-middle class and thus must run the streets with an Enforcer to pay back the necromancer version of student loans -- a debt that has her in forced servitude, hunting rogue vampires, until it gets paid off.

HH: What will readers love about Teaghan?

ZR: Teaghan... I have to grin when I think about him. He is badass... for lack of a better description. I know a lot of authors say that about their heroes. Teaghan was born in 1700's Europe and has thoroughly embraced the gangsta lifestyle. He talks the talk and walks the walk, which grates on Jeliyah's nerves. He's a strong Enforcer -- one of the top -- and he does it all for money. The name of the book is because of him -- CREAM = cash rules everything around me. He loves to kill things and he loves money. In that order. Being an Enforcer is his chocolate and peanut butter combination.

HH: What do you think of the other books in the series?

ZR: I haven't gotten a chance to read the other books in the series but the blurbs sound fantastic. I'm looking forward to seeing how the other authors handled the theme.

HH: What else can readers look forward to from you?

ZR: The future is full writing which I hope will become contracted releases. Assistant's Position is an Erotica series I have coming out with Razor's Edge Press. This office redefines the phrase "and other related duties." The first of the four book series -- Before and After Work -- is already out. At Changeling Press, I have an installment to the Soul Debt multi-author series coming out in late May -- Or Current Resident (erotic demon romance). The heroine finds out the hard way that she should always read before she signs.

Under my other name, I have a non-shifter dragon romance coming out with Bookstrand Publishing -- Favored Dragon's Release. It will be out this summer. And yes, I did say non-shifter. I paired the heroine with a dragon the size of a house (give or take) and watched them figure out their relationship and how it works.

HH: From where do you draw inspiration for your works?

ZR: Almost everything inspires me. A friend talking about a drinking game she was playing inspired 'I Need an F,' an Erotica novella at Razor's Edge Press. A very interesting tattoo and a challenge from a friend inspired 'Rite Men for Maya,' an erotic menage (mmf) novella at Changeling Press -- my first Erotic title, in fact. Toss me a theme or a suggestion and I'll more than likely be able to make a story out of it.

HH: What hobbies or interests do you have outside of your writing?

ZR: I have several hobbies. Aside from reading Romance -- Paranormal is my favorite, I read manga and watch anime. I'm a huge manga/anime fan. I tend towards the shoujo (for girls) side of the spectrum because that's where the romance is at. I also love yaoi, which is the M/M genre in Japan. I do kumihimo, I knit chain mail, I have an inkle loom I need to pull out and start using again... I pretty much do whatever keeps me from being idle.

HH: What's your favorite quote ever?

ZR: My favorite quote is from E.L. Doctorow -- Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia.

HH: What's your favorite social media and how to use it to let readers know about your books?

ZR: Up until a few weeks ago I would have said Facebook was my favorite... and then I got sucked into Pinterest http://pinterest.com/zenobiarenquist/. I have boards for my books and I also have various boards for whatever random thing caught my fancy -- food, anime, movies, favorite fictional men, favorite fictional women, dragons, Whovian stuff, etc.

HH: Thank you!
