Darragha Foster

Born in 1864 to a wealthy coastal family of land pirates, Vesper Highgate-Adaire lived in accordance with family traditions-traditions that changed after the clan was cursed. They became Shadow Lovers cursed to feed upon those energies best expended only between husband and wife. Or upon blood. And only on the dark of the moon. Forced to leave their beloved beach so as not to saturate the land with their poison, only Vesper remained behind to care for the family estate and feed in the background of society.

But time and tide and the feverish nightmares left behind in her victims after her embrace do not wait for dark nights to move in their unstoppable, mysterious ways. A juggernaut of hellish proportions is coming to the beach—and there's only one way to stop it--she must leave her home forever. Hard-headed and proud, Vesper won't accept that fact. She'd rather die fighting than flee and live. Good thing the only person alive able to control a Mooncusser's daughter has returned to the cove. And his blood-ties to the beach are just as thick as hers. Mooncusser Cove -- Ghost ships! Curses! Land pirates! Vampires who feed on sexual energy! The persecution of witches! Just another day at Vespers by the Sea bed-and-breakfast at Mooncusser Cove.

Content: public sex, the abuse of English cucumbers, antique car sex, alternative personal orifice sex, vampirism, possession, trickery, deceit and general acts of piratey mayhem.

An Interview with Darragha Foster
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Darragha, thanks for talking with us at TRS. Please tell us about your featured work, Mooncusser Cove.

DF: I first heard the term "Mooncusser" several years ago. Awhile back I was watching TV (in an ongoing effort to avoid housework, I'm certain) and caught the effervescent Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel's "Great Hotels." She was staying somewhere on the east coast in a little beach resort cottage called "Mooncusser." I just had to research that word! It's fun to say, Moooonnnncuuuuussssserrrrrrrr. I morphed the real east coast legends about "Mooncussers" with my own legends about Shadow Lovers (Cold, Hard Kash was the first Shadow Lover tale), tossed in regret, passion, insatiable blood lust and one hell of a stubborn heroine and Mooncusser Cove was born.

HH: I have to ask, having read this, where did you get the idea for this amazing take on paranormal life -- the entire immortal culture you created?

DF: I don't know. My mom calls me "Deranja," as in deranged, so maybe it's in the wilds of my mind that the bizarreness of Planet-Darragha is born.

HH: What sort of research went into this incredible story?

DF: Internet exploration, discussions with those who have lived on Cape Cod, and lots of imagination fueled by late night cups of tea

HH: What did you admire most about Vesper?

DF: Her name. Her Harley! Her 1940 Ford Woody!

HH: Will there be any follow up stories? (Hopeful readers want to know).

DF: If readers ask for it, it will happen. Read it! If you enjoy it, let me know...and let Liquid Silver Books know.

HH: You're a psychic. How did this help or hinder you in your writing career?

DF: My mother is a "retired" psychic minister. I grew up in a house where all things metaphysical were the norm. My mother trained me at a very young age to use my knack for psychometry to benefit others. I don't often do readings for myself. I find that helping others make good decisions for themselves is the most inspiring part of doing readings. I do 98% of them via email. Sounds odd--but folks keep coming back! I have lots of return customers. So...help or hinder in *my* writing career...I don't know. I think it's helping others that keeps my creative juices flowing. I charge $5.00 per question because everything out there is expensive enough. My readings cost about the same as a latte or gallon of gas :)

HH: It's been a year since you underwent weight loss surgery. How have things changed for you since this experience?

DF: September 20th will be one year. I am the kind of girl that can look at bread, turn my back, walk away from it, and it will still find a way to glom on to my butt. I joined a gym (and am now writing a short erotic romance piece called "Her Personal Trainer" about that experience), and gained weight. A lapband is a mechanical obstruction that keeps me from eating the bad stuff and further keeps me from eating too much of the good stuff. I love it. I absolutely love it. I've lost over 50lbs. I have many pounds to shed, but slowly and surely, they're going to go away. Far away. Don't you go finding them!

HH: I'm that kind of girl too. <g> What do you enjoy most outside of writing?

DF: My daughter is an accomplished young horsewoman. I'm now learning how to "exercise" her pony (ground work). It's good for me. It's good for the horse. I really enjoy the time I spend with my kid, driving her to and from the stable (she's 16, but doesn't drive yet). Our horse is there. Her job is there. It is a place of magic scents and sights and I have a few stories milling about my head for "stable tales," too. I am a Star Trek fan. My husband and I gave each other the Vulcan Salute at our wedding. We often watch Voyager repeats together. He worked nights for the first 17 years of our marriage, so he's never seen some of the episodes. It's fun to share them with him.

I like Dr. Who and Torchwood. A lot. I watch Lost, when it's on. And I can spend way too much time watching BBC America's "How Clean is Your House," "Cash in the Attic," "Bargain Hunt," and "You are What You Eat."

I read every day. Either an ebook or a paperback--I read all the time. I keep a book in the car and also have a few loaded onto my Palm.

If I could, I'd craft all the time. It's expensive, it's messy and it's time consuming, but I love crafting. Current project: I'm decoupaging an archway in my house with gorgeous paper. It's like creating my own custom wallpaper border.

HH: What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

DF: My daughter is screaming out: Trader Joe's Vanilla meringues. My favorite dessert. I love them. So I stay away from them. If I buy them, I eat them. They do not get "stuck" in my band. They melt in my mouth. My sister-in-law is saying, "Darragha is an office supply junkie!" I am. It's true. I love pencils (Graphite Stick Pencils), pens, "organizers," decorative file folders. I love office supplies.

HH: What's your favorite way to interact with readers?

DF: Often. I like to interact with my readers OFTEN. Email me! Send me your thoughts on my books! I'll post your "mini-reviews" on my blog.

HH: I've asked that question a few times lately. That's the best answer I've gotten so far. Thank you!
