About Calista Fox
Award-winning author Calista Fox began her professional fiction-writing career in 2004, following an exciting career in PR, where she specialized in writing speeches and Congressional testimonies. Her books have received rave reviews and she is also the recipient of a Reviewer's Choice Award for Best Erotic Sci-Fi Novella. HH: Calista, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured story in the Passionate Peridot anthology, Forever in Her Eyes.CF: I'm happy to be here, as always! I'm really excited about Forever In Her Eyes being in the new Passionate Peridot anthology (Ellora's Cave Presents trade paperback) because the ebook did really well and I hope to reach a larger audience in print! I had no idea the Jewels of the Nile-themed series would end up in print anthologies, so... imagine my surprise when I got word that Passionate Peridot had just been released! Plus, the book was featured on the back cover of the May issue of RT Bookreviews magazine, and that was another fantastic surprise! Ellora's Cave never ceases to amaze me with all they do to support their authors!
This story is one of my favorites, and here's what it's about:

HH: A woman with a rare gift and a man who sees who she really is. Where did you get the idea for this beautiful story? CF: Peridots are beautiful, pale green stones that are rather abundant, but for some reason not well known. I didn't have a story in mind when I started researching the gem for EC's special Jewels of the Nile-themed series, but when I came across an article about peridots being referred to as the "Emerald of the Evening," the entire story just sort of clicked in my mind. An immortal woman protecting a precious gem that men would go to great lengths to possess-including seducing and lying to her. She's both clever and strong enough to keep this particularly unique gem from falling into the wrong hands, but Dyson just might be the one man she's waited centuries to share her gift with…
HH: How did you come to be part of this anthology? CF: The fun part about this was that I wrote the story for the ebook feature, not even knowing it would become part of a print anthology. So when EC emailed me to say the trade paperback was available, I was so excited! And then to see it featured on the back cover of RT Bookreviews magazine in May… That was so cool!
HH: What do you admire most about Rayne and how do you relate to her? CF: That's an easy one! She's extraordinarily independent and strong-willed. She's had her fair share of emotional bumps and bruises, but her hardships have made her stronger. I love her sensibility and ingenuity. She evolved as a character who understood her strengths and weaknesses and eventually learned how to use both to her advantage. She also learned how to let the past go in order to embrace her future… and the man she was destined to love.
HH: What do you think of the anthology in its entirety? CF: I love the unique uses of the peridot gemstone, which is what this anthology is all about. We were the August birthstone, so by that time, a lot of plots had been used related to the jewels, and I think we all had to get very creative to keep the theme of the year-long series fresh!
HH: What can you tell us about the three Red Sage titles you have coming up? CF: Thank you for asking!! I'm so excited about my single title release, Object of Desire! It comes out on July 1, and I'll be promoting it at the Romance Writers of America Conference and Literacy Book Signing in mid-July. It's an action-packed book (very Lara Croft/Tomb Raider meets Ethan Hunt/Mission Impossible story) that also features a sizzling-hot romance!
My second RS release is The Pleasure Principle, which is part of the Three Kinds of Wicked ménage series RS is releasing, beginning July 1, 2009. It's a futuristic pirate story that features two very independent, fierce, star-crossed lovers. As you can probably imagine from the aforementioned description, everything about this story is ultra-hot!
The third book you've mentioned is called Simply Decadent, and it's the first of a series of single-author novellas that are all tied to a very erotic and scandalous boutique in Savannah, GA, that features decadent and sensual items used to inspire romance and leave inhibitions far behind!
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?
CF: Lots of great contests!!! I'm really excited about the release of my Red Sage single title, Object of Desire, and I'm giving away sets of my RS collection, to include to the five Secrets anthologies I'm featured in, and my single title, of course! They'll be autographed by me, and I'm also working the with scorching-hot cover model Jimmy Thomas to sign the books that feature him on the cover!
HH: What are you reading now?
CF: My nephew turned me onto the Twilight series when were in Cancun and I've just finished the last book in the series. I'm a full-on addict! I had a great conversation about the books and movie on a plane ride back from San Diego last week with a cute Marine who loved the series as well. =) Love the books, the first movie and the soundtrack! And my little heart is going pitter-patter for Rob Pattinson!
HH: What goals have you set for yourself at this point in your career? CF: Wow, that's a great question! I have a really insane day job that includes weekly travel, so it's been kind of tough to plan for the future as far as my writing goes. I've pretty much been flying by the seat of my pants! But I've just recently reached out to a few crème-de-la-crème agents and am having some strategic conversations at this point, hearing their thoughts on the future of publishing and where my focus ought to be going forward. I'm back to writing full-time this year, so it'll be interesting to see how everything pans out for me!
HH: Which of your heroes is your favorite and why? CF: Hmm, that's a tough one! I love them all, honestly! I guess that's why I love this business. I get to create the most intriguing and sexy people imaginable!! Dyson Montgomery (Forever In Her Eyes) is a favorite because he's cocky yet steadfast and protective. But I think Devon Mallory (Object of Desire) is my absolute favorite hero! He's a modern-day Han Solo. A reluctant hero who has his own agenda, but never fails to rise to the occasion and save the day. He wants the girl and the glory, sure. But in the end, Devon would sacrifice himself to save the world. Gotta love that. =) (Oh, and he's sexy as hell!)
