An Interview with Laura Guevara

HH: Laura, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured book, Back in Your Arms.LG: Thank you for having me, so excited for the opportunity! Back in your arms (BIYA) is about James Burckhardt and Carolina de Anda. James, a Special Forces member, has been away for a year, the longest so far in their relationship and Carolina is pissed that he hasn't contact her to let her know he's okay. With the help of her sister and friends she goes on with her life and starts going out again, trying to forget James.
James will not let that happen. Once James is back to the states, he knows that Carolina will be pissed but vows to do whatever it take to win her back and keep her safe. I love all the characters and plan to write more on James team members. Santiago's story will be next. BIYA is special to me because its one of my longer stories I've finished to date.
HH: Your hero is a man who's been broken in service and your heroine believed that he'd abandoned her. Where did you get the idea for their emotionally-charged tale? LG: It was weird. I had written out the scene where a guy returns and goes to his woman's apartment last year. But that was all I had. I had been throwing around ideas about how and why he had been gone for so long and hadn't been able to communicate with her. So being that I love military men, one day their story just hit me! Once that happened their story told itself pretty quickly. I could also finally call them something other than 'he' and 'she.' They finally had names! I also knew that it would have to be a damn good reason why he had been away for so long so I got the idea for James to go on an undercover mission and then taken captive by some of the most ruthless thugs out there. And it is memories of Carolina that kept him alive and sane during his capture.
HH: What do you like best about Carolina and how do you relate to her? LG: Oh wow lets see. I love that Carolina is strong and feisty. She walked away from James at their first meeting, but James was persistent and finally won her over. Also Carolina isn't afraid to let James know what is on her mind. A thing Carolina and I both have in common is we cuss. LOL I am a curser, I admit it and so I have to watch my mouth often. I also like to think that I have some of her feistiness in me =)
HH: What do you like best about James and why might he be perfect for her? LG: I love that Carolina was always James' top priority. One of the reasons that he never contacted her was because he didn't want to risk hurting her in any way. And then once he recovered the first thing that he wanted to do was be at her side. James is perfect for Carolina because he understands her and they compliment each other. She makes him more approachable and keeps him human.
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers? LG: I have a story in Sweet Submission called Collect on Delivery with the talented Shara Azod. This is the second story in the Whipped Dreams Series. Next up is Tag You're Writ 2 Anthology where Drea Riley and I co-wrote Flippin' the Script. The anthology will feature other awesome stories by Shara Azod, Reana Malori, Jeanie Johnson and Jayha Leigh. Also we have a Un-Halloween anthology by the above mentioned authors that will also be out soon.

HH: What can you tell us about Beautiful Trouble Publishing? LG: BTP is a new up and coming publishing house that will have its official launch later this year, December I believe. The owners, Jeanie Johnson and Jayha Leigh, are two kick ass talented women. They have supported, encouraged me and have given me the opportunity to continue my writing.
HH: How long have you been writing and what keeps you working on your stories each day?
LG: I have been writing for the past three years, I think, time does fly by fast! What keeps me writing each day is just to finish telling my characters story. They all have different stories and voices, and they all want to be heard. I am sometimes surprised at where the story goes because it's not what I had originally planned. That's why I love writing. The stories just take on a life of their own!
HH: What would you most like to accomplish in your career in 2010?
LG: I would love to break into the New York Times Bestsellers list =) But if that doesn't happen just yet, I want to finish several of my WIPs that I have been going back and forth on. I also want to attend RT next year in Ohio and get a chance to meet some of my favorite authors and friends.
