A second chance at a once in a life time love.
Tre knew from the moment that he first saw Leigh stroking his half-wild horse that her elegant, delicate appearance belied the depth and strength of her spirit. He’d dared to make Leigh his own, showing loyalty to nothing and no one beyond the laws of nature that clearly decreed that she was his. But when Leigh denied what should have been undeniable, he first knew the bitter taste of betrayal.
Now a family tragedy has forced Tre and Leigh together once again. Guilt, anger and betrayal rage between them, but so does a desire hot enough to incinerate all else in its wake.

About Beth Kery Beth Kery grew up in a huge house built in the nineteenth century, where she cultivated her love of mystery, romance and the paranormal. When she wasn't hunting for secret passageways and ghosts with her friends, she was gobbling up fantasy novels and any other books she could get her hands on. Today she lives and works downtown in a bustling city, making her equally as likely to pen a story about energetic urban living as she might a haunted house or a paranormal race. She enjoys writing contemporary, paranormal, historical and erotic romance. Beth writes for Ellora's Cave, Samhain, Berkley Sensation, Berkley Heat, Changeling Press, and Whiskey Creek Press.

An Interview with Beth Kery
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Beth, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured work, Come to Me Freely.BK: Hi Holly, thanks for having me. Come To Me Freely is due out at Ellora’s Cave on July 16. It’s another contemporary, a hot, deeply emotional romance between two people that are very much in love, but which circumstances have kept apart.
HH: So you have two very strong characters kept apart by the belief that they were rejected by the other. Where did you get the idea for this emotionally-charged story? BK: I wanted to do a story about the farm country where I grew up, first of foremost. Once I had the setting in mind, the characters started to fall into place. Relationships are rife with misunderstandings and conflict, some more so than others. I found the idea of two people so attracted to each other, so in love with each other, that they were willing to try and overlook the wounds inflicted in the past very powerful.
HH: What do you like best about Tre and Leigh? BK: I admire Leigh for her dedication as a spinal cord injury physiatrist. For those that don’t know, that’s the type of doctor that helps people not only recover from spinal cord injuries, but guides them through the rehabilitation process so they can adapt their functioning and live full, healthy lives despite conditions like paraplegia or quadriplegia. I like Tre, because despite the fact he’s sustained a severe emotional wound from Leigh, he’s still honest enough with himself to admit he wants her...no matter what.
HH: What sort of challenge does an author in the romance genre face in staying competitive? BK: Too many to name. Staying on top of promo, keeping abreast of trends, etc. I’ve only been published for a year and a half now, and I’m learning as I go along. But more and more, what I focus on the most is writing a high quality, engaging story. The book itself is the best marketing tool.
HH: Where do you draw inspiration for stories and how do you set about making them unique and original in a crowded market? BK: Being unique is such a challenge. I recently decided to take the plunge and do something in the vampire genre for my second Berkley Heat book. It was a big deal for me to make that decision. I love vamps, but I’ve avoided doing one because I was so intimidated by the idea of originality in such a crowded market. I tried for unique content elements, of course, but when it gets down to it, maybe originality in a book comes mostly from the writer’s individual voice.
HH: What draws you to erotica/erotic romance as an author? BK: I love romance. I know it’s not popular to say in certain (uppity?) crowds, but well...I adore it. In regard to erotic romance, I like the fact that there are no ‘limits’ put on sexual expression. If I want to write a sweet, sensual scene, I can. If I want to write it scorching hot, I can. When it comes to life, love and sex, I think it’s nice to have the whole canvas to play with.
HH: How do you think erotic romance is fairing in today's market? BK: Steady, I think. I hear rumors both ways, but I’m never sure what’s true. I know when I first acquired an agent, I heard it was becoming more of a challenge to sell erotic romance in New York, that it was over saturated, etc. I haven’t found that to be the case so far, however. I get the impression that many of the e-publishers are doing very well. For me, it’s been a pretty robust market.
HH: What do you feel gives you a unique edge in the romance genre, Beth? BK: Umm...good question, Holly! I’d say my life experience...what I’ve done, who I’ve been fortunate enough to work with and know, my particular bent on how I view relationships. I’m very big on the idea of writer voice, and how that’s influenced by the writer’s life. I’m sort of a typical romance writer, because I love the classic genre so much, but I mix in my unique experiences, things I’ve observed and done personally, the lessons I’ve learned. I think it creates a blend of the familiar mixed with a deep emotional complexity to my stories. That’s what I hope, anyway. =)
HH: What do you enjoy reading? BK: I love reading romance, especially Sandra Brown and Nora Roberts. I don’t think there’s a Sandra Brown book I haven’t read. I read in almost every genre, but gravitate toward romance and fantasy the most. Favorites are Jane Austen, Mary Stewart and Neil Gaiman. Oh, and I love the Harry Potter series for “de-escalation” after a stressful day.
HH: What do you have coming up for lucky readers? BK: Subtle Voyage will be out at Ellora’s Cave in September of this year. Wicked Burn comes out from Berkley Sensation in December, 2008, followed by Daring Time in June, 2009. A book tentatively titled Captive Secrets will be released from Berkley Heat in August, 2009 with a second Heat book to follow in December, 2009. I also just got work that Cerridwen has accepted my fun, urban contemporary romance called Flirting in Traffic.
Really excellent questions, Holly. Thanks for getting me to think about some interesting ideas!
HH: Thank you!
