Dumped by her boyfriend and on thin ice in her law career, Sophie Edison badly needs to re-evaluate her life. She escapes to her favorite hideaway on the tropical island of Fiji, where the attentions of the resort owner - the enigmatic and lethally sexy Dominick 'Nick' Dufour - prove a temptation too great to resist. Before long she starts to wonder if she can ever go back to her old life.
Nick has lusted after Sophie for years. When she turns up at his secluded resort alone for the first time he wastes no time in making her his lover. Sophie is his perfect match in bed, and in the ocean and the shower...but although he might long for something more, Nick knows theirs is just a holiday fling. For he is keeping the secret of his checkered past from Sophie and it could prove the ultimate deal breaker...

An Interview with Sami Lee
By Katie Raines, Assistant for The Romance Studio
KR: Sami, thank you for joining us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about Fijian Fling?SL: Fijian Fling is a short story set, funnily enough, in Fiji. My hero, Nick, owns the resort where my heroine, Sophie, is holidaying. It's not the first time she's visiting the resort and sparks have flown before. This time she's there without her boyfriend and Nick wastes no time taking advantage of her newly single status.
KR: A struggling lawyer and a reformed criminal in a gorgeous tropical setting. Where did you get the idea for this story? SL: I was looking for something new to write when Samhain Publishing put out their call for submissions for a summer themed anthology series called A Midsummer Night's Steam. I'd never actually written a short story before so I thought it would be an interesting challenge. My husband and I had vacationed in Fiji about five years ago and at the time I'd thought 'one day I'll set a story here'. I started typing and quickly got hooked on the cheeky fun of writing a contemporary erotic romance.
KR: What do you like best about Nick? SL: He's a flawed character, which I like because I think it makes him seem more human. After a difficult past he's managed to make something of his life, which proves how strong he is. But he still makes mistakes and is stubborn. I did like that his feelings for Sophie were pretty clear to me from the beginning. Ultimately he puts her needs ahead of his own, which makes him a hero in my book (pardon the pun!)
KR: You've got some wonderful reviews and now this story is being released in print as part of the Sand, Sun and Sex anthology from Samhain Publishing. As an author, how do you feel about the positive buzz the story has generated? SL: I don't think there's an author out there who doesn't love to read good comments on something they've written. I'm thrilled that so many reviewers have enjoyed this story and I hope that translates into readers enjoying the story too! The print anthology looks great and the other three stories in the book are awesome, so I can honestly say anyone who likes steamy short stories with heart will find what they're looking for in Sand, Sun and Sex.
KR: What are you working on now? SL: I'm currently working on a category length hot romance detailing what happens when the heroine's relationship falls apart on the eve of her wedding, only to have her realize the man she should have been with all along was staring her right in the face. It's kind of a best friends to lovers story set on the Great Barrier Reef. I've also recently completed an erotic novella, the first ménage tale I've turned my hand to. I'm waiting for news on that, so fingers crossed.
KR: You've held a lot of jobs outside of your writing career? Do you draw on any of those experiences for your writing? SL: Actually not as much as I probably should. Most of my characters seem to come to me with careers already, and if one of them is a lawyer or an accountant, I can't seem to talk them into becoming a bartender just to make my research load lighter!
KR: What's your writing routine like?
SL: Routine - what routine? Anyone who's followed my blog at any stage will know that I constantly struggle with trying to set a routine that's right for me. With an outside job, a three year old and another baby on the way, I consider myself lucky to get anything achieved. I try to set myself weekly targets rather than daily, so I can be flexible about when the work gets done. I find it also helps if I make some kind of connection with my characters every day, even if it's just to write a few notes on their background or a line of dialogue they might say in future chapters. It keeps me connected to what I'm working on.
KR: Where and when do you do your best work?
SL: When my daughter was younger she used to nap for two hours mid-morning. This was the perfect writing time for me - after I've woken up and before the mid-afternoon lethargy hits. Now she doesn't nap until mid afternoon, if at all, so I've had to switch to writing at night. Sometimes I make handwritten notes in my lunch hour at work and type them up later. I write on my laptop, and I change locations. I've never been very good at that making a dedicated writing spot thing. My laptop is my writing space. I think I've grown an umbilical attachment to it.
RG: What can readers look forward to from you in the coming months? SL: As I already mentioned, recently I wrote a ménage novella that I've submitted and am waiting to hear some news on. Hopefully that will be coming out later in the year. I'm expecting a bit of a slow down in the coming months on the writing front because my second baby is due in July. The brain is bound to turn to mush and writing time will shrink even further, so I'm not even sure myself what, or how, I'll be doing!
RG: What else would you like to tell readers out there? SL: Nothing more than I hope you enjoy reading my stories as much as I enjoy writing them - and I hope the reading gets done a lot quicker than the writing!
KR: Thank you!
