Reviews for Knight's Emerald

"As part of the Emerald series from Ellora’s Cave, this story is noteworthy in its clever depiction of how this brilliant stone is crucial in the telling of this tale. With an innovative set of circumstances, B.J. McCall tells about two determined characters who also possess exceedingly passionate natures just begging to be released."

"With her late grandmother’s help, Varis Montgomery is becoming a successful artist and Astrid Radcliffe is seething. She believes the man was only interested in his own welfare and now that her dear grandmother has died, Astrid is ready for Varis to get out of her life. Although her grandmother tried unsuccessfully to get her granddaughter to date the man in whom she believed, plenty of sexual fantasies did pass through the younger woman’s mind. Though they are not enough for Astrid to let Varis remain in her life any longer, and she wants him gone as soon as her grandmother’s will is read."

"Although Varis has desired Astrid from the beginning, he knows time has about run out and his last few hours at the Radcliffe estate do not look promising. When the will is read, it stipulates several unforeseen requirements and each one angers Astrid and delights Varis after his initial shock. For her inheritance to remain hers, she must agree to the terms of an ancient spell or lose everything. Varis has always seen Astrid as being so sure of herself, and he cannot wait to use the excuse of a spell concerning the Knight’s Emerald, his unanticipated inherited ring, to break through her control and possibly discover the heated passions beneath the surface." - 4.5 starts, Amelia, Sensual-Ecataromance reviews

An Interview with B.J. McCall
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: B.J., thank you for talking with us at TRS. Please tell us about Knight's Emerald.

BJ: Born to a wealthy family, Astrid Radcliffe has been loved for her money more than for herself and she wants nothing to do with her grandmother’s protégé, Varis Montgomery. He’s a talented painter, but Astrid is convinced Varis is a con artist and she has managed to avoid her grandmother’s matchmaking attempts.

Astrid never imagined her grandmother’s matchmaking would reach beyond the grave. Varis inherits the priceless Knight’s Emerald and Astrid must abide by the conditions of the will if she wants to keep her treasured family home.

Varis doesn’t want the ring, but he desperately wants Astrid. He doesn’t believe in spells, but his night with Astrid is pure magic.

HH: A will, a powerful ring, and medieval magic. Where did you get the idea for this smoldering story?

BJ: I love emeralds and I wear an emerald ring. My ring wasn’t inherited and I bought it the mall, but I thought what if it an ancient ring carried a curse into modern times?

HH: What sort of research and planning goes into this kind of story for you?

BJ: I loved the mix of medieval magic and an honorable knight winning the lady of the manor. A bit of research set up the story of the knight. I wanted the ancient emerald to be the catalyst that brought the modern lovers together.

HH: What do you like best about Varis?

BJ: He’s been in love with Astrid for months and when he’s given one night to win her, Varis really makes the night all about her pleasure.

HH: When did you first decide to do what you loved and become writer?

BJ: I always wanted to write, but it took being laid off to start the process. I really encourage anyone who wants to write, to try. I was rejected many times, but I kept writing.

HH: How did your life change one you'd published?

BJ: I made new friends, most of which I have never met in person. It’s really an amazing feeling when a reader tells you that they really loved your story and they have used their hard-earned money to buy your book. I don't want to let my readers down, so my goal is to always deliver a good story.

HH: What's the greatest thing you've learned in your writing career?

BJ: That I have more to learn about the craft of writing. Some writers blow my socks off and I can only hope to aspire to their level.

HH: What are the biggest challenges you've faced?

BJ: Jumping into a new genre. It’s a whole new learning curve.

HH: How does a prolific author like yourself stay ahead in a crowded, ever-changing market?

BJ: You have to be open to different genres and find a new twist to a love story. I’m very lucky I have great publishers and wonderful editors to toss ideas at.

HH: What are you looking forward to in the rest of 2008?

BJ: Upcoming releases are Spaceport: Scavenger for Changeling Press and Warrior of the Light for Ellora's Cave. I have several works-in-progress to finish.

HH: Thank you!
