About Devyn Quinn

Devyn Quinn lives in the scenic Southwest, though she has called several other states home. She is a huge fan of dark gothic literature, and read tons of books on history and biographies. She especially enjoys reading books on Hollywood before the 1960’s. Devyn lives with her many cats, five ferrets (yes, five!), and Shih Tzu, Tess.

After writing for several small presses, including Samhain Publishing and Ellora’s Cave, Devyn debuted as a Kensington author with Flesh and the Devil in March 2007. Since that time, she has released six titles with Kensington, and will be releasing seven more books through Spring 2010 through the Aphrodisia imprint. Her titles include the contemporary genre, as well as intensely dark paranormals. In 2009, Devyn joined NAL, which will launch a new three book paranormal romance series.

An Interview with Devyn Quinn
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Thanks for talking with us at TRS BLUE, Devyn. Please tell us about your featured book, Man After Midnight.

DQ: Man After Midnight is the sequel to Flesh and the Devil, and is Dani Wallace’s story. In Man After Midnight, Dani Wallace’s one night stand comes with strings attaches. Casedren Teraketh is a prince of the underworld of Sedah, and he’s chosen Dani as his bride to be! Casedren is desperate for a consort as his twin brother, Cellyn, seeks to challenge Casedren for the throne of Sedah -- and control of the demonic Jadian race.

HH: Two characters in a fascinating world, locked in a battle of sensual wills. Where did you get the idea for this stunning story?

DQ: I’d had the idea for quite a few year, but had never had a chance to develop it fully until after I’d written Flesh and the Devil. A lot of readers emailed me, asking for Dani’s story.

HH: How did you approach creating the world this story takes place in?

DQ: Pretty much the way I do everything, but the seat of my pants, LOL

HH: How did the sons of Lucifer come about?

DQ: I had developed an interest in Seraphim, which lead me to begin researching angels and demons on a deeper level. I’d always wondered what would have happened if Lucifer and Adam’s reputed first wife, Lilith, were to have children. What would that race evolve into and how would their existence coincide with that of mankind? It’s a very interesting concept to explore, and I am happy to say the book has, thus far, received great reviews.

HH: What do you like best about Dani and how do you relate to her?

DQ: I like that Dani is a bit of a ditz. Though she wants very much to get a grip on her magic, her spells sometimes have a way of going awry. Sometimes it seems like things I touch go awry, too, LOL.

HH: So you just became part of the NAL family. What can you tell us about this very exciting news?

DQ: Yes, that is true. My agent, Roberta Brown, recently closed a deal in Feb 09 with Lindsay Nouris for a three book paranormal romance series, which will debut in Spring 2011 for the Signet Eclipse imprint. Needless to say, I was totally stunned when Lindsay bought my proposal, which is based on sea lore. I’m still kind of pinching myself over the whole thing, and how fast all the pieces fell into place.

HH: What interests you about Hollywood before the 1960's?

DQ: The evolution of motion pictures and all aspects of the building of the studios and the star system just fascinate me. The history of cinema and films -- one of the most revolutionary creations in history -- is a subject I enjoy reading about. Just try and imagine life without movies, without television, without any sort of visual entertainment.

HH: What is your passion outside of writing?

DQ: That would be my pets. With countless cats, five ferrets and my dog, I am constantly kept busy cleaning up after animals! My next passion, which I could better afford if I didn’t have so many pets, is electronics. I am totally hooked on my iPod and laptop. If it is a techie toy, I want it, LOL.

HH: Are you attending any conferences or other events this year?

DQ: Alas, I’m not. I wish I were, but won’t be able to manage any in 09.

HH: What do you have coming up for lucky readers?

DQ: July will see the release of the MEN IN BLUE anthology, with Myla Jackson and Delta Depree. The theme is cops undercover, and I very much enjoyed writing my tale of mobsters and double-crossing molls. August will see the release of Possession, a single title about a woman who encounters a very unusual book, and the demon that inhabits it. Dec 09 will be the release of Soul of the Wildcat, about cougar shifters in the mountains of North Carolina.

HH: Thank you!
