About Ericka Scott

Ericka Scott is a multi-published best-selling author of seductive suspense. She's written stories for as long as she can remember and reads anything under the sun (including the back of cereal boxes in a pinch). She got hooked on romantic suspense in her college days, when reading anything but a textbook was a guilty pleasure. Now, when she’s not chauffering children around, wishing she had a maid, or lurking at the library hoping to check out the latest bestselling novels, she’s spinning her own web of fantasy and penning tales of seduction and suspense. She currently lives in Southern California with her husband and three children. You can find out more about her at www.erickascott.com.

An Interview with Ericka Scott
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Ericka, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured work, The Vampire Oracle: Chalice.

ES: Reclusive vampire Sapphire McKenzie lives in her penthouse apartment with fortress-like security run by her AI computer, Van. She's been hailed as the greatest armchair detective since Mycroft Holmes and has solved every case she's ever been asked to investigate – and even some she hasn't. Her ex-lover, Drake Chastain, is a retired basketball star living off his fame and fortune until women he's dated begin disappearing, then reappearing…dead.. With Drake framed for murder, Sapphire has to leave behind the safety of her home to save the man she loves…or die trying.

HH: What can you tell us about this very special series at Cobblestone Press?

ES: The Vampire Oracle series is a set of twenty-five cards. Deanna Lee envisioned a set of stories all linked together where the protagonists are brought together through the love of one vampire.

HH: How did you come to be part of it?

ES: When the call for submission came out, I started looking at the covers and seeking inspiration in the artwork and the cards' meanings. Then, I tried to build a story around them. In all, I submitted four different proposals. Chalice was my favorite and I'm thrilled that it was the one chosen for me to write.

HH: How does your story fit into the series and where did you get the idea for it?

ES: My story is tied to the main series through the Oracle Card. I've also worked in several characters from other author's books. The idea for the story came from my love of Sherlock Holmes. (small bit of trivia here, I was a member of the Double-Barrelled Tiger Cubs) Originally, I wanted to create a character who solved crimes solely by following the forensic evidence. Then, I threw a wrench in the works and had her get out and do some real investigating and put her life on the line in order to solve the case.

HH: What do you like best about Sapphire and Drake?

ES: Sapphire became a vampire to escape from her past. Like many of us, she just wishes the mistakes she made would go away. However, when her past comes back to haunt her this time, she doesn't run but turns and fights. Drake is a complex character. At first, he's portrayed as quite a player. Then, as the story unfolds, it's revealed that it was the other women who realized he wasn't right for them and moved on. He's a sensitive man who's always tried to do the best for his family and friends, even when his best intentions backfire and put them all at risk.

HH: What do you enjoy about writing erotic romance?

ES: I enjoy writing about the desire and love my characters develop for each other. It's amazing that the love scenes are never the same. As I write, the characters guide the style and pacing of their lovemaking and it's always fresh, new and exciting.

HH: What do you see in the future for erotica/erotic romance in today's market?

ES: Just like jello, there's always room for romance! As for the erotic content, it will probably peak and level off, but I don't see it ever going away.

HH: How do you balance everything in an authors life? Writing, promotion, appearances, etc.?

ES: I'm not sure how I balance it -- some days better than others. I'd like to say that I have a schedule that I write to, but honestly, I just jump in feet first and do what I can.

HH: What's your favorite way to interact with readers?

ES: Blogging is by far my favorite way to connect, but I love chatting and e-mail as well.

HH: What accomplishment in your writing career, to this point, are you most proud of?

ES: Pressing that submit button each and ever time. I thought the first instance was hard, but it's never gotten any easier to send out a work written from your heart and then hand it over to others to read..

Thanks Holly!

HH: Thank you!
