Sydney Somers

Journalist Blair Murphy is on the trail of a hot lead when she meets an even hotter stranger. Charmed by Drew Reid's sexy smile and intrigued by his evasive answers, Blair puts aside her undercover investigation of a corrupt politician for an under-the-covers investigation of every inch of his incredible body. But even after Drew satisfies her in every possible way, he refuses to satisfy her curiosity. Especially about the mystery woman who keeps calling his cell phone.

Available in September from Samhain Publishing!

As a burnt-out demon slayer, the last thing Drew needs is an inquisitive woman complicating his life, especially when she turns out to be the one woman who's strictly off limits—his partner's sister. He knows firsthand why it's important to keep loved ones at a distance, yet the fierce desire Blair arouses makes it impossible to stay away.

Just as Drew prepares to hang up his sword for a normal life, a vicious attack on Blair awakens a storm of powers inside her that rage beyond her control. As her emerging abilities become increasingly unstable, their searing passion could be her salvation—or destroy them both.

An Interview with Sydney Somers
By Katie Raines, Assistant for The Romance Studio

KR: Sydney, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured work, Storm Warning.

SS: Storm Warning is the third book in my Shadow Destroyer series, which centers around a team of highly trained demon slayers. The third book follows Drew Reid, a Destroyer who's been off his game and struggling to keep his mind on slaying demons. Enter the heroine, Blair Murphy, a journalist looking for a story, who ends up turning Drew's complicated life even more upside down. Not only does Drew soon realize he's had an intense affair with another Destroyer's sister, but he's seriously hung up on her—a situation that goes from bad to worse when a demon attack leaves Blair forever changed.

KR: Your hero wants the one woman who's off limits for him. Your heroine is a woman about to discover abilities she didn't know she had. Where did you get the idea for this intriguing story?

SS: Well, I really enjoy putting my characters through the wringer (some might say too much LOL) and the best way to really come up with any great story idea is to ask yourself, /What if?/ followed by, /What's the worst that could happen/? For this book it's Drew questioning his skills and ability to keep the people he cares about safe, and for Blair it's discovering a dark and dangerous world she'd never imagined and not being able to tell anyone else about it.

KR: Your hero is a demon-slayer. How do you go about crafting a character like Drew?

SS: Start with a little pure, playboy charm. Toss in some heightened senses, speed and reflexes. Add equal parts stubborn determination and lethal protectiveness. Then finish things off with a burning desire to get the girl.

KR: What do you like best about Blair and how do you relate to her?

SS: I adore Blair's determination to always ask the hard questions, even when she's sure she isn't going to like the answers. She's not interested in candy-coated explanations, not even when she learns she's part of an ancient legacy, and struggles to harness the powers it has unleashed inside her. From start to finish she was a heroine who was easy to relate to because whether she's following a lead or seducing Drew, she doesn't hold back—something I strive for with every book I write.

KR: This is the third story in your Shadow Destroyers series. How did the series come about?

SS: This series is really a labor of love for me. The second Jordan (heroine from Unbreakable) appeared in my mind I knew I wanted to do an action-filled series. One that would allow me to combine my love of paranormal with a little DNA mutation, some spy-like themes and really hot sex. =)

KR: What can you tell us about Unbreakable and Stripped Away?

SS: Unbreakable is the first book in the series and the introduction to my demon-slayer world. The heroine, Jordan, has been slaying demons since an attack left her with the ability to heal quickly. For nearly five years she's been living a double life, never expecting that she'd come face to face with the one man she thought was dead. The only thing more staggering than the number of people falling victim to demon sacrifices is how much she's still in love with Gage.

Stripped Away picks up shortly after Unbreakable ends with Quinn, the most headstrong of my Destroyers, dealing with nightmares she can't explain, a master demon stalking her and a missing sister. Not to mention the friction between her and fellow Shadow Destroyer Braxton. Friction that stems from one incredible night between them that Quinn doesn't even remember.

KR: How does Storm Warning continue the series? Will there be more?

SS: Storm Warning continues with all the things readers have come to expect in this series: lots of action, suspense and passion. Plus it lays the groundwork for the final two books in the series.

KR: What else can readers look forward to from you?

SS: Aside from more books in my Shadow Destroyer and Spellbound series, I also have a sexy scifi-futuristic novella out in November from Samhain Publishing entitled, Enslaved.

KR: What would you most like for readers to know about you?

SS: That I feel so incredibly lucky to be able to write stories that give other people a break from real life, even if it's just for a little while. Knowing that I can do for other people what so many other authors have done for me is a really incredible and immensely rewarding feeling.

KR: What's your favorite way to interact with readers?

SS: I love hearing from people by e-mail as that gives me the opportunity to get a little more one-on-one with readers. Readers can also catch me playing around Samhain Publishing's Café, or by dropping by my MySpace page any time.

KR: Thank you!
