An Interview with Brenda Williamson
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Brenda, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured story, Hell Hath No Fury.BW: A romantic suspense, this murder mystery has a heroine with crushed dreams and a hero eager to give her the world. While they work on building a relationship, they each have the chore of dealing with spurned women as well as two murders. Suspects abound, but not until the end will the reader learn who done it.
HH: A wounded heroine and a hero determined to heal her wounds and claim her for his own. Where did you get the idea for this sizzling and romantic tale? BW: It's a step-by-step process, each element of the story comes from grueling thinking <big grin>. The romance is a common tale - girl breaks up with cheating boyfriend and is ripe for nice guy to make feel better. Then there's the murder - deciding who to kill and why. Finally, there's the killer and the motives, which has to be weaved through the story. Unlike some, this is a work built more on small ideas instead of inspiration.
HH: What do you like best about Fallon and how do you relate to her? BW: I like that she has a strong spirit and resilient nature. I'm like that, easy going, getting past bad things quickly.
HH: As a writer, how hard is it to put your characters through a great emotional trauma at the outset and deal with their wounds through the story? BW: It's not hard to give them the problems, but for the sake of the story it's often hard to keep them struggling. I have a tendency to want to jump to the happily-ever-after as soon as possible just to get back to smiling.
HH: What did you like best about Grayson and why is he the man for her? BW: He's a stable caring man. His sturdy character makes him the perfect balance for a shaky Fallon to find happiness.
HH: What can you tell us about the forthcoming Maiden of Mercy? BW: This is the 2nd book in my Dragon Fighter Romance Series (Red Sage Publishing). All the stories have a Medieval theme with knights that are members of The Dragon Riders Society. The men ride dragons and each book revolves around one of those men. The stories are stand alone, but also connect to each other by events and characters, so overall each romance is part of a larger story in the series. Maiden of Mercy is about a girl that loved an older boy. Circumstances took him away before he knew how she felt. Now years later, he returns a scarred and depressed man. She's more than ever determined to prove her love and make him happy.
HH: What can you tell us about the forthcoming Seducing His Lordship?
BW: A light regency with a paranormal twist. It involves a woman who is in love with the man she's married out of convenience, but doesn't know how to get him to fall in love with her. Meanwhile, he has the same problem. So it makes for a bit of fun watching them interact, too afraid to tell the other their feelings.
HH: What are you working on at the moment?
BW: I'm working on multiple projects, a sequel to A SINFUL TIGER and a romantic suspense novel involving a reporter on vacation in Maine, and a mercenary trying to get her off his island, only someone's trying to kill one of them, and he has to protect her until he finds out who's the target.
HH: What are you reading at the moment? BW: My own words. I haven't had a chance to read anything lately with writing and edits, unless we count the entries I'm judging in The Stroke of Midnight contest and the The Daphne Contest.
HH: Will you be making any appearances this year at conferences, conventions, or other events? BW: I'll be at the Romantic Times Convention in Orlando, Fl, April 22-26, and signing at their eBook Expo & their Book Fair.
KR: Thank you! -->
