An Interview with Brenda Williamson
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Brenda, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured book, Sexual Deceptions 2.BW: This is part of a series where there is always some deception going on, whether it be lies or omissions of truth. Each book is two stories one by me and one by my co-author, Rayne Forrest. Each book is deeper themed by similar stories. In this book, we have government spies. My story, Undercover Lovers, is about a woman, Jenova, a spy trying to find out who's behind a white slavery ring and the killing of women. While keeping her ruse up as a fashion photographer, she meets Derex, an attractive man that seduces her with his cat. All the stories incorporate a bit of technology for a not-so-far futuristic Earth atmosphere.
HH: Your heroine is a woman who can normally take care of herself and your hero is the man who must save her from certain doom. Where did the idea for this thrilling story come from? BW: Not an easy answer for this one. I still don't know where I get my ideas from. It might start with a word I hear, or a site I seen. Television plays a role, and so does my extensive span of reading material.
HH: What do you like best about Derex and why is he perfect for Jenova? BW: He's sexy and caring. Perfect for Jenova who never takes time out for herself until he shows her there's more to life than work.
HH: What do you admire about Jenova and how do you relate to her? BW: She's independent, has good work ethics and she's intelligent. Sounds a lot like me!
HH: Both Sexual Deceptions 1 and this book are co-authored with Rayne Forrest. How did these two books come to be? BW: We became friends several years ago and we wanted to do something together, but with a long-range plan, and thus the series Sexual Deceptions was created. Book 3 comes out in August with Whiskey Creek Press Torrid, and we're working on Book 4.
HH: What do you enjoy most about working on a joint project? BW: It gives me a working reason to chat with Rayne. We get along fabulously, yet working and writing tend to eat up a lot of our time. With this project, we know we have to stay in contact, and with that comes the fun of just socializing and growing an already great friendship stronger.
HH: What's your favorite type of story to write and why?
BW: Anything Historical. I love history and I love researching different time periods. One of my hobbies is collecting antique books. The oldest book I have is about Satanism and is dated 1789.
HH: What are you reading now?
BW: Rogue by Cheryl Brooks. It's a book I picked up at the RT Book Lover's Convention last week.
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers? BW: This summer, blending my favorite anything-historical genre with my second favorite - paranormal, I have a terrific regency cat shifter book, SEDUCING HIS LORDSHIP coming out with Loose Id. The heroine is a feisty lady attempting to get her husband of convenience to fall in love with her.
HH: What would you most like to accomplish in your career this year? BW: I don't really set too many goals. I work fast enough that I average writing a half-dozen books a year. What more could I want? Okay, so money and fame would be a nice bonus!
HH: Thank you!
