An Interview with Angela Kay Austin
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Angela, thank you for talking with us at TRS! Your featured book is Sweet Victory and features a brave heroine with a heart of gold. Where did you get the idea for this inspiring story?

AKA: The idea for Sweet Victory grew every day I watched the news and had conversations with my own friends and family. Today, there are still approximately 14 million people looking for jobs in America. People of my generation aren't familiar with this type of an economy, and we have all been forced to learn fast. We're forced to reinvent ourselves. Many people reentering the job force are under employed or self-employed. I wanted this book to capture some of the anxiety and realism of what's happening in the world around us.

HH: What can you tell us about Victoria and why will readers identify with her?

AKA: I hope people will like Victoria because she's real. Everyone knows someone like her. A person who just kind of drifted through life, but then suddenly one day she has to really take control of her own life. The choices are stay "stuck" where you are, or grow, and Victoria has to decide.

HH: What do you like about Chad and why will readers love him?

AKA: I love Chad. He's probably my favorite hero. He's not a game player. He lost the love of his life, and never quite healed from it. But, he's able to admit to himself what mistakes he's made, and his part in it. And he's definitely not afraid to take advantage of an opportunity when it's in front of him.

HH: What makes this tale stand out from other romances of its kind?

AKA: What I love about this story, and what I hope readers will love are the relationships. Victoria, Chad, Victoria's grandfather have a history. Victoria and Chad didn't meet a week before declaring their love for each other. They really know the good, bad, and ugly. Now, they're faced with accepting it.

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

AKA: I love writing women's fiction with strong romantic story lines. I have a few other pieces that are currently available: Love's Chance, My Son, and Scarlet's Tears. I have other pieces that I've submitted, so hopefully, I'll be screaming the news of future contracts soon. =)

HH: How much of your day is devoted to your writing career?

AKA: Because I work full time, I don't have the luxury of writing every day. I usually end up breaking my week up between family, writing, and work. But, normally, I spend about 4-5 hours a day, 3 days a week on my writing, and that doesn't include the time spent promoting. =)

HH: What goals have you set for yourself in your career?

AKA: I guess my goals are simple. I want to just continue to be able to write. Â Hopefully, telling stories that capture readers' attention.

HH: What are you reading at the moment?

AKA: I'm reading a couple of books by J.R. Ward and Jeaniene Frost. I can't tell you how much of a Jeaniene Frost junkie I am.

HH: Where is your favorite place to shop for books?

AKA: I love book stores, and I'm saddened to see them closing. My favorites are the ones that have coffee shops inside. Here in the Memphis, TN area, there is a local bookstore that has a restaurant inside of it. I love it!

HH: Any special plans for the holidays this year?

AKA: I love the holidays, and holiday stories. I'm working on an idea that I can hopefully have complete in time. But, aside from that, I'll be spending the holidays with my family... enjoying every minute!

HH: Thank you!
