Caught between revenge and redemption...

Sheriff Jake Ayers wants his parish to heal from the tragic bombing that left his town in mourning, but with Riley Drake back in town, that’s not going to happen. Jake cares for the beautiful, determined reporter, but Riley is causing no end of trouble. Most of the people want her dead. Emotions run deep in the bayou, and Jake’s are no exception. Keeping a level head and an indifferent heart is going to be as difficult as keeping Riley alive.

With her family shamed, and her faith shaken, Riley carries a heavy burden. She returns to Bayou La Foudre Parish to clear her brother’s name, but her mission is difficult. The people of the town are convinced of his guilt, and her only ally is Jake Ayers. Both frustrated and fascinated by the parish’s brooding sheriff, Riley hopes she's found someone to trust with her burden... and her heart.

An Interview with Raquel Byrnes
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Raquel., thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Bayou Blue and it's the third book in your Shades of Hope series. Where did the idea for this amazing series?

RB:The whole series began with the heroine of my first book, Purple Knot. The idea of a series with strong women facing extraordinary circumstances really appealed to me.

HH: How do the first two books begin the series?

RB: The books are stand alone, but many characters from Purple Knot make an appearance in Bayou Blue, the third book releasing this month. As with the first two, Bayou Blue promises adventure, love, and a surprising twist.

HH: What will readers like about Riley and why will they relate to her?

RB: I think we’ve all been in a place where we were not the most popular or our decisions were not what everyone else wanted. Riley is in a tough spot when she returns to the town her brother bombed, but her search for the truth whether it is to prove his innocence or to finally understand why, resonates with people. We want to know the truth about those we love.

HH: What can you tell us about Jake and why will readers love him?

RB: Jake is the sheriff of Bayou La Foudre, the most recent in a long line of lawmen in Louisiana. He understands duty and family, but when his feelings for Riley test what thinks is true, we get to see the more noble side of Jake.

HH: Can we look for more amazing stories in this series?

RB: I’m always open to inspiration where this series is concerned. I’ve toyed around with some ideas for a fourth book, but we’ll see what happens.

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

RB: I’m working on a new Gothic romance series that has been such a hoot to write. In this series, The Noble Island Mysteries, the setting and characters are edgier and darker with unexplained happenings that add to the suspense. The first book, Whispers on Shadow Bay, is set to release in January 2013. I can’t wait to share it with fellow romance lovers.

HH: Will you be making any appearances in the remainder of 2012?

RB: I’m giving a creative writing course locally and may make a conference in the winter. I’m always excited to connect with fellow lovers of romance.

HH: What are your plans for the fall at the moment?

RB: My brother is flying in from out of state with his wife and we always have a blast when they are here. I can’t wait for our family portrait this year…we’ve conspired to all wear ugly sweaters.

HH: What would you most like to accomplish before year's end?

RB: I’d like to finish the book I am working on now. I’ve given myself a December 31st deadline so no New Year’s fun until I close out the story!

HH: Thank you!
