An Interview with the Taige Crenshaw
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
Holly: Taige, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Dark Callings and is part of your Phoenix Intelligence Agency series. First, what can you tell us about the series?
TC: Phoenix Intelligence Agency and the agents there protect the world from those things that go bump in the night as well as in daylight. Things that the human race does not know exist. Other beings that are their neighbors, friends, colleagues or any person they interact with. They keep order for the other beings that break the laws of earth as well as the other dimensions. The agency is made up of various races of paranormal beings and a few select humans. They are highly trained and are the best of the best. Phoenix Intelligence Agency is a complex, wild ride and passionate series. I’ve taken many parts of history, folklore and other interesting tidbits to create the world of the series. It was fun to bring in various things I find fascinating. In building the world of the Phoenix Intelligence Agency there are so many beings and things to explore. I’m having a wonderful time laying down the layers of the world. Expect the series to take twists and turns you would never expect.
Holly: How do the first two books kick it off?
TC: Indigo Rain (Phoenix Intelligence Agency, Book #1) from the opening scene with Kalina Erutan my heroine you feel her power and frustration as she hunts for escaped convicts. Since it’s not usually her job she is ready for it to over. Yet the encounter is not as easy as it seems. The complication leads her into the path of the hero. Ryne Garon my hero is a firebird and I put a major spin on what they are. I’m being deliberately vague about both because I don’t want to give away anything too much about the story. He is usually contained yet when he meets Kalina he is out of control. His primal side flares and he wants her. He might be one of the most feared agents in the Phoenix Intelligence Agency but this Amazonian Warrior knocks him on his ass both figuratively and in reality. Her prickly nature is an aphrodisiac. Her drawing a weapon only entices him to disarm her and then have his way with her. They have to work together to figure out the complication Kalina encounters.
Silken Inferno (Phoenix Intelligence Agency, Book #2) opens with the return of Vaughn Saunders after being away for a number for years. He has some unfinished business to settle with Allure his ex-partner and the woman he wants badly. Before they can move forward they have to get past their complicated history. Allure Davis expected to have to face the one man who she trusted at her back until he betrayed her... or so she believes. His reasoning of doing so to save her is passable but with his leaving is something she can’t understand. Vaughn’s return throws her for a tailspin and she has to face not only the past but also her ultimate desire. As these two face their past and work to their future they have to deal with the repercussions of what happened in book 1 of the series.
Holly: How does Dark Callings continue the series and will there be more to come?
TC: Dark Callings (Phoenix Intelligence Agency, Book #3) continues with the things that happened in book 1 and 2 of the series. In the book it’s also about the destiny of Lennox S’chaech and Harmony Davis. They seem like opposites but they are meant to be. These two characters each have their own way of doing things. Lennox is take charge and fights to protect those he cares about. He doesn’t dare give in to what he knows is meant for him and Harmony. Harmony on the other hand is viewed as laid back but she knows more than anyone that life is about choices. She refuses to back down from the choice of going after Lennox. He is stubborn but she is determined...and together they are have a destiny awaiting them.
Lennox might not want to fulfill the call of destiny believing that it is for the best but Harmony has other ideas. Their journey is an interesting one. One that has twists and turns then comes down to taking a jump to believe in each other. Harmony uses teasing, belief and determination to get her man. Lennox resists due to stubbornness, honor and he wants to protect her from the possibility of being hurt because of him. Life is complex and the things that happen don’t always go according to plans. Each person has a place in this world that they must fulfill...destiny. Lennox and Harmony have no control over when destiny will strike. When it comes, they had better hang on for the ride that takes them on...Dark Callings.
There is much more books to come in the Phoenix Intelligence Agency series. It is a continuing series which I don’t have an end point number for books yet. There is so much more to tell in the world I’ve built with this series.
Holly: What do you like best about Harmony and why will readers relate to her?
TC: Harmony is determined and although believed and seen as kind or nice she has a core of strength inside of her. Harmony is a woman who is determined enough to get beyond the defenses of a stubborn man. She doesn’t care about what others think or that Lennox himself isn’t sure if he can trust himself. There is a darkness in him and Lennox doesn’t want it to affect her. But Harmony sees the good in him even if Lennox does not. He underestimates her and she gets beyond his defenses. Readers will relate to her because she follows her own path and goes after what she wants.
Holly: What do you like best about Lennox and why will readers love him?
TC: Lennox is such a sexy, intense and complicated man. Lennox is a man who thinks because of the being he is, he does not dare hope for the woman who he wants. Lennox is a Shadower - a race of beings who are feared and other beings don’t trust them. Lennox is willing to forgo his own happiness to protect others. That included Harmony who is determined she knows him. Readers will love that he is so intense and seems so unapproachable but when it comes to Harmony he opens up slowly. He is complex with layers that you would want to explore.
Holly: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?
TC: Here is what I have coming in 2013.
I also have a few releases in 2014 but can’t share details yet. Check my site I post there when I can share.
Perfect Fit (Singleton, Book #2) -- Coming November 2013
I just announced that Perfect Fit (Singleton, Book # 2) has been contracted by Total-E-Bound and will be released on November 8, 2013. It goes up for pre-order on September 27, 2013. This book is about a married couple who still loves each other but something has shattered their relationship. It starts when Regina - my heroine - came home and finds divorce papers waiting for her from her husband Spencer - my hero. She is devastated but not leaving it at this. She has known her husband since she was a teenager and knew he was her’s and she was not letting him go. When she goes to confront him she loses hope that they can go back or rebuild what they lost. Spencer loves his wife but sometimes love is not enough. Silence has killed their marriage and he needs for them to talk though things so they can reclaim their ‘us’ but that us easier said than done. The couple has things that they have to work through to become the Perfect Fit again. I have the blurb and cover art on my blog and facebook page.
I’ve finished and subbed the 3rd book in the Blackstone Haven series and started to work on 4th book in the Phoenix Intelligence Agency. I’m also working on some joint projects. It is going to be a sizzling and busy year. LOL.
Holly: Where do you draw inspiration from?
TC: Writing has been in my blood and soul forever. For as long as I can remember I’ve always been an avid reader and a writer. When I was a child I used to make up my own stories and share them with my family and friends. As I got older I continued to write. When I went to college I started getting more information on actually writing professionally. I joined some writing organization and started to learn my craft.
I’m inspired from everything around me. It can be doing something as simple as taking a walk and something I see sparks and idea.
Holly: What's your writing schedule like?
TC: During the weekdays I write during the weekdays a certain word count each day. I make sure to hit that count before I stop. Most days I go over the word count I set. My writing might be broken by random moments of me dancing when I get a scene how I want it. LOL. Earlier this year I decided to take weekends off so I chill on weekend and let my mind fill with what I have coming to write.
