An Interview with Tami Dee
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Tami, thank you for talking with us at TRS! Please tell us about your featured book, Beyond A Viking Horizon.
TD: It's wonderful to be here, Holly. Beyond A Viking Horizon, an August 1, 2010 release, is a time slip romance which takes the reader back to the days of handsome Vikings, heart pounding adventure, and romance. The saga begins in Denmark, 908. Balmung Nabboddrson, a farmer, feels an attachment to the piece of earth he has carved out for himself, which reaches right into his very soul. While he is happy that Leif and Davyn, two of his three brothers, have found the women who complete them through the shifting sands of Time, he vows to keep his feet firmly planted on his land, in his Time.
Iris Johnson, a widow struggling to raise four children on her own, just happens to live on Balmung's land, in the year 1930, that is.
Balmung manages to keep his vow to remain on his land, but Time sees to it that he and Iris lives are intertwined. Love grows softly between the two, and Time shifts, and re-shifts, them through one adventure after another.
HH: This is the third in your very popular Mists of Time series. Where did the idea for the series come from?
TD: One night, several years ago, I had a dream. In the dream, there was a girl, and a wall mural of a Viking Ship amidst a violent storm. The next thing the girl knows, she is a part of the mural, and the mural is very much a reality. The Mists of Time Viking Series was born. The funny thing is, in all of the Mists of Time books, there is not a "mural turned reality" to be found. I do plan on writing that dream, though, one of these days. <g>
HH: What can you tell us about the first two books?
TD: I am happy to share that both book one, Under A Viking Moon (Leif, a Jarl, and Kat) and book two, Dawn of A Viking Sunrise (Davyn, a trader, and Rosie) are best sellers for my publishing house, Desert Breeze Publishing! The Nabboddrson brothers' saga begins with Under A Viking Moon. An ancient legend, a bitter betrayal, and a set of time shifting pendants set the stage for this fast paced romantic adventure.
In Dawn of A Viking Sunrise, Davyn and Rosie (Kat's best friend) are both accused of crimes they did not commit, and are subsequently thrust into places and Times which they have no control over. Their adventures take them across the seas, over continents, and nurtures a love for one another which overcomes great obstacles, including Time itself.
Dawn of A Viking Sunrise also has a bonus romance within its pages, a mini romance which will have fans of Under A Viking Moon smiling from ear to ear.
HH: How does this book continue the series and will there be more?
TD: Beyond A Viking Horizon continues the series with Balmung. As a farmer, he strives to cultivate life, and I would have to say he is the most sensitive of the brothers. His sensitivity is the balm which Iris, a widow with four children, needs to help her heal from her husbands' unexpected death. A death which enemies from her Time want her to believe her own child was responsible for, in order to try and drive her from her land.
The very land which belongs to Balmung in the year 908.
Readers will be shocked to discover that an old enemy from book one is still up to no good, and has traveled over a thousand years into the future to try and met out revenge on the Nabboddrson family.
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?
TD: I am working on the last book in this series, book four, Through A Viking Mist. (March 1, 2011 release) I have to tell you, this book has taken on a life of its own, and is writing itself in my mind faster than my fingers can type the words. In Through A Viking Mist the series will come full circle in VERY unexpected ways. Ofeig, a warrior, and Eva a magnificent female warrior, find themselves at the mercy of those portal opining pendants. Ofeig, having two sister-in-laws and a brother-in-law who are all from a thousand years in the future, handles his shift in Time with relative ease. Eva, on the other hand, believes witchery is involved and she is sure that the warrior she had been fighting with in the forest the moment she had been flung into a Time not her own, is responsible for the witchery. Five years pass before they see one another again. Will Ofeig be able to win Eva's heart before she discovers that the man she had vowed to slay should she ever set eyes upon again, is he?
HH: What do you think today's readers are looking for in the romance genre?
TD: Pure, clean, happily-ever-after romance.
HH: What changes do you see coming in the genre and how will it affect you?
TD: I'm not sure. I think that the need for romance, whether real or fictional, is fundamental and I really cannot see that ever changing.
HH: What do you enjoy most about being a writer?
TD: The writing itself. My stories are character driven. I always have an idea where I wish my story to go, and I just let my characters take me there. So far, they have not let me down. <g>
I have sent countless e mails to authors whom I have read, and loved. And to be on the receiving end of those types of e mails is truly humbling and rewarding.
Times are so hard right now, on so many levels, that it is nice to be able to offer readers a bit of an escape. I strive to give my readers romance, adventure, and leave them with the wonder of "what if it could really happen?"
HH: Do you read print books, ebooks, or both?
TD: I read, and enjoy reading, both. As a side note, I am so pleased that my books are in electronic format. It is thrilling to know that anyone, from anywhere in the world, can buy my books with just one click of a mouse.
HH: Any big plans for the fall?
TD: Yes, by fall I should be done writing Through A Viking Mist and I will begin writing Innocent Deception, a Scottish Historical (Desert Breeze Publishing) which has a release date of October 1, 2011. I don't think it will be a time slip book, but you never know!
