Felicity Heaton is a romance author writing as both Felicity Heaton and F E Heaton. She is passionate about penning paranormal tales full of vampires, witches, werewolves, angels and shape-shifters, and has been interested in all things preternatural and fantastical since she was just a child. Her other passion is science-fiction and she likes nothing more than to immerse herself in a whole new universe and the amazing species therein. She used to while away days at school and college dreaming of vampires, werewolves and witches, or being lost in space, and used to while away evenings watching movies about them or reading gothic horror stories, science-fiction and romances.
Having tried her hand at various romance genres, it was only natural for her to turn her focus back to the paranormal, fantasy and science-fiction worlds she enjoys so much. She loves to write seductive, sexy and strong vampires, werewolves, witches, angels and alien species. The worlds she often dreams up for them are vicious, dark and dangerous, reflecting aspects of the heroines and heroes, but her characters also love deeply, laugh, cry and feel every emotion as keenly as anyone does. She makes no excuses for the darkness surrounding them, especially the paranormal creatures, and says that this is their world. She's just honoured to write down their adventures.

An Interview with the Felicity Heaton
By Holly Hewson for The Romance StudioHH: Felicity, thank you for talking with us at TRS! Your featured book is Her Dark Angel and it's part of your Her Angel series. What can you tell us about this series and does it have to be read in order?
FH: The series is about a world of angels and demons where the angels are still in the service of a higher power. They're not fallen like you get in a lot of angel romance novels and series. Each of the books is sexy and passionate, and packed with action too. I love to world build and I haven't held back in this series.
The first three stories in the series are all novellas, focusing on the romances between the angelic heroes and their heroines. They're passionate and sensual, full of intense love scenes as the heroines face accepting the love of an angel, and the angels face deciding between their love for their women and their loyalty to Heaven. All of the stories in the series stand alone, so they can be read in any order. The first story, Her Dark Angel, focuses on Apollyon, one of the most powerful angels in existence, and his love for Serenity, a young witch. The second story, Her Fallen Angel, follows Lukas as he tries to prove his innocence and find the person responsible for the hundreds of human deaths that were pinned on him, and convince Annelie, a mortal, that they can be together. The third story, Her Warrior Angel, follows Einar as he hunts down the demons responsible for the deaths that Lukas was blamed for and finds himself working with a beautiful half-demon half-human woman, Taylor, and falling for her regardless of the fact that love between their species is forbidden.
Her Guardian Angel is the first novel in the series and brings all of the heroes and heroines from the first three books in the series together with a new hero, Marcus, and a new heroine, Amelia. Marcus is a guardian angel, and the most loyal of all the heroes so far. He thinks only of obeying his orders and fulfilling his mission to protect the mortal female Amelia, regardless of the way he feels about mortals. Amelia is a young thirty-something, going from one bad relationship to the next, and when Marcus moves in next door to her and protects her from a rowdy ex-lover in the dead of night, she starts to fall for him, but is convinced that no matter how good Marcus looks, he might be another black knight in disguise. When demonic angels attack her, and Marcus saves her, revealing his true identity, Amelia is pulled into a new world that starts out like a dream but quickly becomes a nightmare. In Her Guardian Angel, we learn more about the previous heroes and heroines in the series, and how their relationships are progressing, and more about Heaven and Hell.
HH: How does Her Dark Angel fit into the series?
FH: Her Dark Angel is the first book in the series so it's a great starting point. It's also only $0.99 at the moment, until January 15th 2012, and is available for that special price at the Amazon Kindle Stores, Barnes and Noble Nook, Apple iBookstores, Sony Reader Store, Kobo and other online retailers.
Her Dark Angel is a story about a wronged woman, Serenity, who is also a witch, and a rather gorgeous but dark angel, Apollyon, who hears her pain and answers her call, escaping a long spell of guarding the Devil in Hell. Apollyon wants to exact revenge upon Serenity's ex for the hurt he's caused her by obliterating the guy, because as an angel of the Apocalypse and one due to rain destruction down on Earth, he's a pretty wicked man and it seems like a reasonable punishment to him. Serenity convinces him to back down to something a little less end-of-the-world and decides to masquerade with him as lovers to make her ex jealous. Working with Apollyon to gain her revenge, Serenity finds herself falling for the dark angel, and finds an escape from the pain in her heart, but she has her doubts about loving an angel and feels she's about to get her heart broken again. She isn't the only one falling in love though, and Apollyon does his best to convince her that he really is the man for her, that he would never hurt her, and that they can be together.
There's a message in the story, and it's that no matter how bad things get, or how much someone hurts you and how much you want revenge, things will get better. There's always someone else out there who will love you, and will treat you right, even if he is a dark angel!
HH: What can you tell us about the books to come in the series?
FH: At the moment, there are four stories in the series -- Her Dark Angel, Her Fallen Angel, Her Warrior Angel and Her Guardian Angel. I'm planning the fifth book in the series, Her Demonic Angel, and that will come out in 2012, and features Veiron as the hero. Veiron had a role to play in Her Guardian Angel and is a fallen angel in service of the Devil himself. This novel will be about him finding someone to love and continuing his fight against both God and the Devil and the eternal game they're playing.
HH: What do you like best about Serenity and why will readers relate to her?
FH: I love how gentle she is. She has incredible powers as a witch, but she doesn't use them for her own benefit. In fact, when she does use them for her own cause, she ends up calling Apollyon! She's kind, youthful, but very emotional. She's been hurt by her ex and as she grows close to Apollyon, she's afraid that she's only heading for more heartache. I think it's something that women can relate to. She's been burned and this fantastic new guy has come along, albeit he's an angel of the Apocalypse, and now she's petrified that if she gives her heart to him, it's going to be game over for her and he's going to crush it. It takes a lot of strength for her to fall for Apollyon and face her fears about him. She isn't afraid that he's an angel. She's just afraid that he's going to hurt her. I also like that she finds her strength because of him, and overcomes the pain in her heart more by herself than anything else. Moving on is her best revenge on her ex.
HH: What do you like best about Apollyon and why will readers love him?
FH: His darkness, and the human side of him that balances it. He's done all sorts of things in his time as an angel, including acting as the angel of death, fighting and defeating the Devil, and generally being destructive, but he's gentle with Serenity, loving and tender. That side of him gradually shines through in the story. He starts out desperate to escape Hell for a while and fly free, to hear his master's call. He thinks his fellow warriors are disloyal for falling for human females, even though he can't stop watching Serenity in the pool in Hell that records Earth's history. When he hears his master's call and goes topside, and realises that it was Serenity that he heard, it sort of dawns on him that he heard the pain in her heart rather than her voice or her request for revenge. He helps her because he feels something for her. I think he has a depth of emotion, of love, that counteracts his darkness, and that readers will love him for it.
HH: What draws today's readers to the romance genre in your opinion?
FH: I think it's more often than not the heroes that draw readers to the world of paranormal romance. The best paranormal romances have a strong hero who can take charge and kick-ass, but who is also unafraid of being emotionally vulnerable or open around his heroine. He'll put the bad guy face first into the dirt and crack jokes while he's at it but he's a different man around the heroine. He lets his guard down around her. The notion of a strong powerful man, a very masculine man, dropping his defences around you and letting you see beyond the hard exterior is a very alluring one. I love to write strong men, fighters who can stand on the brink and stare into the storm they're facing without wavering, and who also reveal themselves to their heroines, turning themselves inside out to win her.
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?
FH: I'm currently editing the first two novellas in my new series, Vampire Erotic Theatre, which is an erotic vampire romance series of four novellas that will all be released in 2012. After that, I'll be polishing Masquerade, which will be the tenth book in my popular Vampires Realm series. Masquerade will be my first release of 2012, followed by the four vampire romance novellas. I'm very excited about them and I think a lot of my followers on Facebook are too as they've been enjoying snippets as I was writing them.
HH: What are you reading at the moment?
FH: At the moment, I'm not reading anything because I'm working on my books. I can't read when writing or editing my own stories. I've just returned from a short break and I managed to devour three of the Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series. I don't get much reading time, so it's always fantastic when I get to sit down and get lost in a book.
HH: What is one of your all time favorite books?
FH: I love Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, but love modern books too. Ashes of Midnight by Lara Adrian is a brilliant book, as are others in her fantastic series. I also really loved The Darkest Pleasure by Gena Showalter.
HH: Any special plans for the holidays this year?
FH: I am going to take it off. That’s special to me. I always vow not to work over Christmas week and then I end up working every day from early morning until late at night. Not this year. I’m definitely taking some time off to devour some books. I swear I’m going to read two books a day for a week and let the internet get on with itself.
HH: Thank you!
