An Interview with Billi Jean
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Billi, thank you for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Sorcha’s Wolf. First, what can you tell us about the Sisterhood of Jade series which it is a part of?

BJ: Hi and thank you so much for having me here at TRS! Sorcha’s Wolf is third in my Sisterhood of Jade series. I’m so pleased to have this series out with Total E-Bound because as you may or may not know, my first two books -- Midnight Star and Silver’s Chance, were published by a different publisher all together. As an author I’ve learned fairly quickly that who your publisher is really, really matters. Midnight Star and Silver’s Chance will be re-released this year with Total E-bound and fit into the Jade Sisterhood as sequels to the series --I hope perfectly! The Sisterhood of Jade is a series I absolutely love. Writing in the paranormal genre is very freeing for me. My imagination conjures up all sorts of adventures with couples so often I have to sometimes slow down. I often find myself thinking of the characters and the world  while I’m out and about. It’s funny because I have to sometimes stop and write down what I’ve thought out before I lose it. =)

The Jade Sisterhood series is set in the here and now with the immortal characters living side by side with mortals, but hidden simply by blending in. Each book is a stand alone, but each book gives glimpses of the characters from other books, and of future books. I can’t seem to write a single story, but tend to weave my characters into each others lives much like life is in reality. We know someone, they know someone and we all meet, then become closer. That’s how this series grows -- each story a single glimpse of a new couple, yes, but each time we see more people and create more ties. My hope with this series is to keep opening up new worlds and with those new stories, draw a bigger picture for my readers.

HH: What can you tell us about the books that came before this one in the series?

BJ: The books that come out before Sorcha’s Wolf are unfolding the immortal world with the species and different characters. Silver’s Chance is about a woman, Samantha, searching for her lost sister -- and instead of finding her, she finds her mate -- a Lykae, Derrick, whose been captive for over two hundred years. The couple are at odds right off the bat, but go  through a lot of growth and several battles with Death Stalkers to finally end up with their Happy Ever After.

Samantha’s adopted mother, Star, a vampire, is center stage for the next story with her hottie Lykae, Ranger. Midnight Star is one of those stories women seem to love -- poor Ranger messes up horrible and every time he tries to fix his foul up, he digs himself deeper with Star.

These two stories were my first and most favorite to write, but I say that about every book I write to be honest. Ranger and Derrick just make me smile at times because of the man-smarts they both possess -- meaning their unable to grasp right away how wrong what they do is to their women... =)

The next book is A Spartan’s Kiss with Tabithia and her hottie Spartan -- Aeros. This couple doesn’t exactly struggle from day one with each other because both are too worried about the other. Aeros, because Tabithia is, well, Tabithia and beautiful, hip, and a stunningly powerful witch. And Tabithia because Aeros is so handsome she feels inadequate. This story touched my heart because during my college years I worked with girls that cut themselves and Tabithia does this when the stress is too high for her. She’s strong, but fragile before she meets Aeros. After Aeros, let’s just say she could kick a god or goddess’s butt if need be!

Golden’s Rule falls next in the series and in this story we finally learn what happened to Samantha’s sister, Susanna. She’s lost her memory and encounters a warlock she can’t keep her hands off of. Not that he wants her too. The two come into some trouble with the ultimate of evil -- the Death Stalkers -- and manage to not only survive, but get through Susanna’s loss of memory and then her reunion with her family.

HH: How does Sorcha’s Wolf continue the series?

BJ: Sorcha’s Wolf falls after this story and continues with unfolding the immortal world and the dangers hidden from our (mortal) eyes. Sorcha wakes to find herself kidnapped by demons, which normally wouldn’t be a problem, but she also discovers she has no link to her powers. If that’s not bad enough, she soon learns that Alex, a Lykae with a reputation for being cold and heartless wants to use her to gain revenge for his family’s deaths -- and just happens to be her mate.

HH: What do you like best about Sorcha and Alex’s love story and what makes it unique?

BJ: I think what makes Sorcha and Alex’s story so unique is where they both start this story. Sorcha has once met Alex and knew he was her mate, but because Alex was still in the blood lust for revenging his family’s murders, he doesn’t see her -- something she didn’t believe possible. A wolf knows its mate. But Alex has cut off his wolf, blaming him for preventing him from helping save his father’s life. So for me, to write about two people coming together -- under this ‘kidnapped and using you for revenge’ idea was interesting. How do you forgive something like either of those things? And for Sorcha, a head of a coven to be kidnapped and powerless, unable to touch her magic, made it equally interesting for me to see their way through to loving each other. I hope my readers agree, though! They kept me on my toes that’s for sure.

HH: What can you tell us about Eternal Embrace, the next in the series?

BJ: Okay, I know I said Midnight Star and Silver’s Chance were my favorites, along with all the others to write, but wow, these two were hilarious -- and hot. Whew. Joey is one wild human, suddenly turned Vampire! She gives her tough Vampire, Jax, one hell of a heart attack in this story. The playboy Vampire shows up in Golden’s Rule, where we discover he is a tough, hard core guy. But with Joey, he is one funny guy -- especially when little Joey leads him around by his nose for part of the story -- but don’t worry, he’s all alpha and she’s thrilled by that I assure you.

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

BJ: So, next on my plate is the re-release of Midnight Star and Silver’s Chance (with a little altering of the stories) , but after that, I think Agni, a demon showing up in several of the books will pound his way onto my computer. He’s one tough character to work with though and so is his significant other. I hope my readers have Kleenex, because I have to warn you, this one will be full of moments my readers will need a few tissues if not boxes of them -- but I promise it will be worth it in the end.

HH: Do you have appearances, in person or online, planned for the fall?

BJ: As of now, no, but after the new year I might have some online author chats and perhaps a romance conference in the UK. I’m living in China now, so going to some of the fabulous romance conferences in the States is out until summer of 2014.

HH: What inspires you in your writing?

BJ: I have always loved to write. Since I was a teenager, I’ve been writing, but until I was an adult, working a full time job I didn’t take my stories seriously. It’s as if until I was settled, I couldn’t concentrate on all those voices in my head. Maybe it’s because I’m a mom, but for me, I have always thought of my writing as a hobby. It wasn’t until I said to myself, enough, do it, that I did it and wow, I am thrilled each time my stories make it out there to the world. Writing, and doing it full time is my goal, so I hope someday to do just that.

HH: What are you reading at the moment?

BJ: Right now I’m busy writing and working, but I love to read anything by Samantha Kane. She really rocks in my opinion. The way she weaves history and romance into her stories make them so believable and so entertaining -- and of course, wicked hot. I also love Jambrea Jones’ work and Rhian Cahill.

HH: Do you celebrate Halloween, and if so, how?

BJ: Yes I do. I go out with my daughter and let her gather as much candy as she can and have a mini melt down over all that sugar. Then I hide and she never remembers where it is... =) I do go to some adult parties too, where I probably drink too much and have way too much fun. I don’t typically dress up in costume though because I am kinda shy. =)

HH: Thank you!
