Kate Patrick

Charlotte Hamilton has just moved to Memphis to begin a new job at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. She is attracted to her gorgeous landlord, Reed Jackson, but thinks her plus-size body puts her out of the running as anything more than a friend. Her bubbly personality and fun-loving spirit appeal to Reed, who is used to high-maintenance women. The two quickly become good friends, and Charlotte is happy being "one of the guys." When Reed is injured on the job, Charlotte stays by his side during the initial days of recovery. As the two spend hours together during his convalescence, a spark ignites an underlying passion they are helpless to ignore. Reed wants to pursue a relationship with the vivacious beauty, but she shies away because of past hurts related to her less-than-perfect figure. Can Reed find a way to convince her that he sees Love Beyond the Curve?

Review For Love Beyond the Curve

"Love Beyond The Curve is definitely a romance novel. It is not erotic or particularly explicit, however it does have some sexy moments. It is lovely for women or men looking for respectful, truly romantic reading. It is a slow burn to their actual loving relationship and full sexual encounter but it is a very sweet, fitting moment. There is also a message - love who you are, respect yourself, and take a chance when it comes along. I have to admit there was one line in the book that was special to me - "you are all woman." I'll say no more :) If you like true romance, if you want to root for the full-figured woman and the hunky, caring man you definitely should read Love Beyond The Curve-- Kazza K, On Top Down Under Book Reviews

About Kate Patrick

Kate Patrick grew up in the South. She can’t recall a time in her life when she didn’t love to read. She remembers going to the library as a child where she devoured biographies and Nancy Drew mysteries. Her love of reading has continued into adulthood, but it is hot romance that she loves to write! While in high school and college, she and her sister began to write romantic stories about girls that met their dream guys who fell instantly in love with them. Even these early manuscripts were spicy enough that the need to “hide” these notebooks was a high priority when leaving the house!

Writing took a backseat to a teaching career, marriage, and motherhood, though books were constant companions. Love stories became a favorite, and began to take the place of mysteries more and more. About three years ago, the idea of writing was rekindled. Now, you can find her late at night typing away by the blue glow of her laptop screen.

She and her husband live on the Gulf Coast with their son and three quirky Pomeranians. When not writing or reading, Kate loves to sing, dance, and watch romantic movies, side-splitting comedies, and crime dramas. Spending time connecting with family and friends is an important priority for her as well.

An Interview with the Kate Patrick
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Kate, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Love Beyond the Curve, and features two very special characters. Where did you get the idea for their compelling story?

KP: I’ve battled weight issues my entire life. I know women that have battled the scales all their lives, or at least at some point in their lives. This topic affects most women no matter how much they weigh. I thought more in terms of women that are not wearing single digit sizes! There are so many beautiful women out there that society deems as “fat”, and their love stories are never told. I decided it was time to tell one about a beautiful woman and a hot looking man that can’t stop fantasizing about her and how she feels when he holds her in his arms.

HH: What do you like best about Charlotte, and why will readers empathize with her?

KP: I like the fact that Charlotte accepts herself just the way she is. She’s confident, but still has days when she fusses at herself about her weight. She values herself enough to not want to be in a relationship with someone who tells her all the right things in private, but acts ashamed to be seen with her in public. She wants that true love for who she is, and not what she looks like, and won’t accept less.

HH: What do you like best about Reed, and why will readers love him?

KP: I love the fact that Reed recognized Charlotte as a real woman who is smart, funny, fun-loving, and someone he loves to be around more than any other woman he has ever met. He is mature enough to see her as gorgeous inside and out. Her attitude makes her even more sexy and attractive to him. The fact that he is gorgeous may also make my readers love him, too!

HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story, and what do you think readers will take away from it?

KP: I loved writing the friendly banter between Charlotte and Reed. I also loved writing the tenderness with which Reed spoke when he was expressing his sincere feelings for Charlotte. He said it right. I hope readers will take away the fact they should value themselves, and never just “settle” on someone and be grateful for them. They need to hold out for the man that sees them as gorgeous and tells them that every day. One of my favorite posters says, “Every woman is beautiful…It takes the right man to see it.”

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

KP: I’m currently writing a sequel to my first novel where I tell the story of the secondary characters from that book. It is a lot of fun because those two are exact polar opposites!

HH: How does 2013 promise to be different from 2012 for you?

KP: I will be retiring from teaching in May, and will then have the luxury of writing full time. I’m very excited about that coming in the near future!

HH: Where do you get the inspiration for your stories?

KP: Everyday life. I like to write about people that do ordinary things finding extraordinary love together. For instance, I took my Mom to get stitches in a finger at an urgent care center last month, and the attending doctor was really good looking. Gorgeous blue eyes, five o’clock shadow, muscular build... everything you’d want in a leading man for a novel. I worked out a story right there while we waited. I people watch and think about what might happen if certain people I see got together.

HH: What’s your writing schedule like?

KP: I don’t have one. That’s why I am looking forward to retirement! I’ll write while my husband is at work, and my son is at school. Right now I can’t write without interruptions until everyone settles down for the night. That means I’m up until one or two o’clock in the morning trying to write. Weekends are times when I get more writing done, as well.

HH: What’s your favorite way to interact with readers?

KP: I have a blog that readers can make comments on, but my best times have been the TRS parties. I LOVE reading the comments, and I always write back. I feel like I’ve made new friends by the time the party is over.

HH: What are you most looking forward to in 2013?

KP: More stories. I have an idea book where I jot down story ideas and opening pages. I can’t wait to develop those characters and tell their stories of true love and romance.

Thank you so much, TRS for having me today to share a bit about my new book, and what’s happening in Kate Patrick’s future!

HH: Thank you!
