Reviews for Siren's Call
"Siren's Call is a thoroughly mesmerizing ride — Quinn throws open the doors to an unbelievable world where nothing is as expected. At once terrifying and fascinating and unbelievably entertaining, this is a book you won't forget." - Kate Douglas, bestselling author of Wolf Tales & The DemonSlayers
"The author fully pulled me into her world that she created in her mind and put down on paper. I wasn't left confused or needing to backtrack some pages to figure out what she was talking about, everything flowed smoothly. This story quickly drew me in and was overall fun. It is the first book in a new series called Dark Tides. I am definitely interested in reading the next book in this series." - 4.5 Stars, Night Owl Romance
"Siren's Call is a faced paced, thrilling story, laced with dark wit and plot twists that made for a great read." – Closetwriter Reviews

An Interview with Devyn Quinn
By Holly Hewson for The Romance StudioHH: Devyn, thank you for talking with us at TRS! Please tell us about your featured book, Siren Call. DQ: Siren's Call is the debut of a new series that chronicles the lives of three mermaid sisters. Though they have lived among humans all their lives, the girls still have a desire to know about their lost homeland, Ishaldi. When Tessa's ex-lover, archaeologist Jake Massey returns from the Mediterranean, he comes with some tantalizing clues that may reveal what happened to the Mer civilization.
HH: Tessa saved a man at the risk of her secret. Now he's back and her life may never be the same. Where did you get the idea for this amazing story? DQ: Honestly, I made it up. When Lindsay Nouis, who was then an editor at NAL, approached my agent about a mermaid themed series I wrote up and submitted a proposal off the top of my head. Honestly I didn't seriously expect that Lindsay would like the idea enough to buy it. I was very surprised when she did!
HH: What do you like best about Tessa and how do you relate to her? DQ: Tessa is very prickly. She knows she doesn't belong among humans and has gotten used to living her life on her own terms. That includes staying away far away from human men. I relate to her because I am exactly the same way. I have my routine and things I do, and I don't want anyone bothering me.
HH: What do you like best about Kenneth and why should she reconsider him? DQ: I like that Kenneth is just an average Joe. He's not exceptionally handsome or extremely well educated. But he's a hard worker and he goes after what he wants, come hell or high water.
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers? DQ: I recently signed a three book deal to do a new vampire themed series, and that book will be debuting in Summer 2011. I'm very excited about returning to the lore and legends I love.
HH: What do you think today's readers are looking for in the romance genre? DQ: I think they are looking for realism and honest emotions, not just something contrived because a couple meets cute.
HH: What changes do you see coming in the genre and how will it affect you? DQ: I really don't see any changes coming. The paranormal romance genre is hot at the moment and I think it's going to stay that way because readers can't get enough of the supernatural. What I do think is important is for an author to strive to be original and not just retell the same tried and true themes over and over. Take the old myths and shake them up a bit.
HH: What do you enjoy most about being a writer? DQ: The ability to set my own work hours. Other than that, it's a job and a grind like every other profession in the world.
HH: Do you read print books, eBooks, or both? DQ: Although I understand there is a market for eBooks, I am not an eBook reader. I spend all day looking at a screen. When I finally turn off the computer to read for pleasure, I want to pick up a print book or magazine. I find print books to be amazingly portable, requiring no special software or charging and I can put a paperback in my purse just as easily as I can an eBook reader. As for having more than one title at a time on hand, how many books can a person possibly read in one day? One book at a time is quite enough. The others won't evaporate because I've got them sitting in a TBR pile.
HH: Any big plans for the fall? DQ: Writing more books!
HH: Thank you!
