Reviews for Cosmic Hearts

"This story has some explicit language and detailed sex scenes. This story is a cute space saga and romance. I enjoyed reading it. I think PAM, the 'personal attendant moderator' is a great character. And the descriptions of the guys definitely sounded hot." ~ Reviewed by Nightowl at Enchanted Ramblings 4.5 wands

An Interview with Kara Griffin
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Kara, thank you for talking with us at TRS. Please tell us about your latest release, Cosmic Hearts.

KG: Cosmic Hearts is the first book in the Cosmic series being released at Aspen Mountain Press. It's a far-out, fun, sexy, sci-fi romance...the story of two people who need each other more than they know. When a handsome king's planet is doomed because of two galaxies colliding, Chance has to woo a Vestalumbria princess to save his people. Valeen would like nothing better to bring him home, but she is on her own quest...to find out why males are forbidden on her planet, but the planetary pirates have different ideas. Can their Cosmic Hearts unite before Chance's planet collides? He sure hopes so.

HH: Your hero must save his people and everyone is after your heroine. Where did you get the idea for this thrilling romance?

KG: Like most of my stories, it just sort of came to me. I was involved in a project that took much research and I needed a break. I wanted to write something fun, something bizarre, lol, something to make me laugh. Little scenes began forming in my head and I started to write it just for me. But the story was too funny and well... sexy, I just had to write the full novel and share it.

HH: How did you go about creating the world your story takes place in?

KG: I'm such a fan of stories like Flash Gordon, Austin Powers, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and the dry, pun-filled humor in those stories. As I wrote the first book, the worlds created themselves. I love Greek Mythology which is where the planet Vestalumbria came from. And the fact that virgins live on it...see the humor, lol. I needed a name for Jack's planet and Appaloosa just came to me--cowboy related. It's not always easy though. Celtaxy was hard to come up with and took me days of looking at Sci-fi sites for inspiration. I get a lot of ideas too from science blogs and the science channel. The simplest fact can inspire a zany idea.

HH: What do you like best about the handsome prince?

KG: I love Chance. He was a fun character to write. What I like most would be the fact that he's willing to do anything to save his people, that he's willing to admit his inclination for books, yet deep down he's a man who wants what every man wants. The fact that he's a hunk...might come into play too, lol.

HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story?

KG: The freedome of letting the characters taking me where they would. Each day, I never knew what was going to happen. I'd let my fingers fly and see what happened. Some of the scenes had me laughing, and the joy of writing the funny bits made me happy. I just hope the readers get the humor and find it as comical as I do. I enjoyed the interaction between Chance and Valeen, the way they connected to each other from the start. Of course writing Valeen's computer, PAM, into the story was a hoot -- and believe me, I had little control over that computer as well.

HH: What challenges did you face?

KG: Since this story takes place 2,000 years from now, I didn't want it to be too unrealistic. As zany as the story is, I still had to research scientific facts to make sure I wasn't off the mark. The greatest thing about futuristics is pretty much anything can fly, but you still want to make sure it's possible. I didn't want to be too technical, because as a reader it's totally distracting having to figure out what's going on, lol.

HH: What's your writing schedule like these days?

KG: The summer is the most hectic time of the year for me. It's when I get the majority of my writing done. I work in school, so from September to June, my writing time is more limited. From late June to early September I work from about 8 or 9 a.m. to sometimes 11:00 p.m. or later. Right now I'm working on one of the cosmic books, a paranormal-historical series, an anthology story (my first vamp!) for Midnight Showcase, promoting, and on it goes until school starts.

HH: Where and when do you do your best writing?

KG: I could kiss whoever created the laptop! I write all over the house and sometimes in the car, lol. I usually lock myself in my bedroom and let the solitute give me the inspiration to think. Having a house of 3 teens, it can get loud, busy...and distracting. I'm a major pranster, and write without outlines or guides so my brain is usually a little ahead of my fingers. I like to write outside too, especially when there's a nice breeze or it's sunny. It always makes me happy.

HH: What do you do when you get stuck in a story?

KG: Haha, funny you should ask. This happened the other day when I was trying to figure out what the next scene was going to be in the story I was working on. When that happens, I either work on something else until it comes to me, or I darken my bedroom and lay thinking about it. I concentrate on the characters and what's happened...usually something will come to me pretty quickly.

HH: What's your favorite way to network with readers?

KG: I love chatting with readers on groups or web chats. It's great when they ask questions or tell you what they thought of your book. I've been so fortunate to have met some wonderful readers who have become friends, people I've come to care about and enjoy being with--even if it's only over the computer.

HH: Thank you!
