Rayan Slade -- half sympath, full vampyre and certified assassin for the
Alliance of Human Protection Services, is called to train the new blood --
SEALs, Green Berets and one lone female. Except the female is the only
woman he has ever loved, the one he'd left years ago when the cravings
became unbearable, when he feared draining her in his need for the energy
that fed him.

Escapes: I Dream Of Jimmy
An Interview with Fiona Jayde
By Holly Hewson Marketing Director for The Romance Studio
HH: Fiona, welcome to The Romance Studio! Please tell us about your featured work, Urban Myth. FJ: Thank you -- I'm thrilled to be here:)
Urban Myth is set in a world where vampyres and humans unite to preserve
the peace between their races. This peace is threatened when a new
generation of vampyres discover that human blood means strength and
immortality.
My hero -- Rayan Slade -- trains new cadets in vampyre combat when he
discovers his ex-wife under his charge. He'd broken both their hearts by
leaving her years ago because he was half-sympath -- a type of vampyre that
feeds on emotional energy. He was afraid of draining her to the point of
death.
My heroine -- Taina Bates trains to fight vampyres after she sees her best
friend turn into a blood consuming nightmare. She is shocked to find one of
her trainers is her ex husband who broke her heart years ago. As she
rediscovers her love for him, she finds he too is a vampyre -- one of the
creatures she'd sworn to kill.
HH: What a thrilling romantic tale! How did you approach world building for this project? FJ: I wanted to inject scientific reasons to the legends. We know that vampires
suck blood, that they are strong and immortal. But we don't know why. So I
came up with the idea that vampyres get high on human blood, which gives
them strength and prolongs their life. That opened up the possibility that vampyres can also try to preserve the peace between the races.
HH: How did you set about crafting your characters who are so unique
and sympathetic? FJ: There's this great duality in every combat -- the struggle between peace
and violence. My heroes struggle to find peace but the means by which they
achieve it is through combat. Their conflicts play very well against each
other --
human vs vampyre, steel weapons against guns, rage vs calm, deadly
concentration. In the end, they all combine into one.
HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story?
FJ: I love butt-kicking heroines and I very much enjoyed writing Taina's fight
scenes.
HH: What challenges did you face? FJ: I struggled a lot with making Taina more "feminine" on her off hours.
There's only so much butt kicking a heroine can do -- she needs a break
once in a while.
HH: What are you working on now? FJ: Currently I'm working Urban Legend which is set in the same world as Urban
Myth. The premise here revolves around the vaccine that was supposed to keep
humans from turning once their blood mixed with that of a vampyre. That
vaccine fails, and my hero - Nick Cain - must work with a beautiful vampyre
scientist to update it.
HH: How did you get your start as a writer? FJ: I've always wanted to write but never really finished anything. I happened
upon a few books by the wonderful Angela Knight who really inspired me. One
of the things she said really stood out to me -- don't revise, just write
and finish. Revise later. I tried it and finished DeBriefed -- my first
ever finished and published novella. That first draft was terrible! But it
was finished and I could revise and rework and polish as I saw fit.
HH: What do you enjoy about being a writer now that you've enjoyed some
success?
FJ: I still get a thrill seeing my name on a cover. Its a dream that I always
had and I'm making it come true one chapter at a time, if you'll excuse the
pun.
HH: What goals have you set for yourself in your career at this point? FJ: As I evolve and learn, I would like to try my hand at longer novels. Some
of the comments I've had from readers were how they wished there was more
to a story -- I need to make that happen!
HH: What can readers look forward to in the near future from you?
FJ: As I discover more genres, there will be more stories with my spin on
legends and perceptions.
HH: Thank you!
