Reviews for Broken Rules
"But like with all romance novels, there has to be a source of conflict, for Jonah and Neil, it is the fact that they're on the opposite side of Canada to each other. Jonah has his work as a social worker and Neil is limited in his location by where there are diving units. It's a good thing that this is the first book in a trilogy because I can't wait to see what happens between the two of them in later books.
I'd give this book 4 out of 5 stars, but will be on the look-out for more books by Ms. Buchanan in the future." - 4 Stars, The Romance Reviews
"Neil has the ability to alleviate Jonah's melancholy through laughter. Neil is an easygoing compassionate bi-sexual man. Neil is sexually out of the closet, as well as accepted by his whole family. Jonah's self-appointed protector, Neil is willing to do whatever it takes to keep Jonah in his life. Together Jonah and Neil work through all the obstacles they face on their journey to a loving relationship. Jade Buchanan has created a marvelous saga packed with emotional dilemma, breathtaking intimacy and humor. Broken Rules is a superb model of devoted support overruling fear. I thoroughly enjoyed Jonah and Neil's romantic voyage to happiness." - 5 Nymps, Literary Nymphs
"Broken Rules is the perfect combination of angst and humor. The characters are well-developed, and with a few notable exceptions, likable. The plot is well-executed and believable and Jade Buchanan deftly handles some very touchy issues in a forthright and plausible manner. Broken Rules is the superb beginning to what promises to be fabulous new series, and Ms. Buchanan leaves her readers eagerly awaiting book number two of the Broken Trilogy." - 4 Ravens, Blackraven's Reviews

An Interview with Jade Buchanan
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Jade, thank you for talking with us at TRS! Your featured book is Broken Rules. Where did you get the idea for this emotionally charged tale?
JB: Thanks for letting me talk :) Broken Rules was inspired by my family. I have such a large, loveable family, but I fully realize that not everyone does. The main thought behind Jonah and Neil is that the way you were brought up and who surrounds you can really impact how you see yourself. The supporting cast in Broken Rules is filled with characters inspired by my real family. From the bubbly Rita-Anne to Neil's boisterous brothers. In fact, my family members even gave me plot ideas and dialogue for this story so this one means a lot to me personally :)
HH: What do you like best about Jonah and why will readers relate to him?
JB: Jonah is human, with all his many faults! But, he wants to be loved and I think that makes him relatable. Jonah was raised in a loving family that crumpled when he came out to his parents. He lost his family, and choose to leave his friends rather than risk losing them too. He's grown up a lot since moving away from home but when his mother dies he's thrust back into all the drama and uncertainty. He isn't sure whether he can have what he wants and he's so afraid of what others think of him that he almost screws up his chance at happiness.
HH: What do you like best about Neil and why will readers love him?
JB: Neil is so secure in who he is and I love that. The love and enduring support from his family has allowed him the freedom to find out who he is and what that means for him. He turns around and shows that same love and understanding to Jonah and to his baby brother who is dealing with his own "coming out". Plus, Neil has a pretty wicked sense of humor :)
HH: What draws today's readers to the romance genre in your opinion?
JB: I can only speak for myself when I say that I'm in love with love! There's something magical about a happy ending, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Add in complex storylines, realistic characters, witty dialogue and beautiful intimacy (whether its sweet or burning hot) and you've got a genre that appeals to so many people. The romance genre eclipses so many different types of stories. There really is something for everyone out there, and I'm glad for it!
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?
JB: I've been working hard over the past month to re-release a few of my older stories. The Storykeeper is available through Kindle and Smashwords at the moment and The Handyman and The Boardroom are currently FREE at Smashwords: http://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/jadebuchanan.
HH: What's a day in the life of author Jade Buchanan like?
JB: I work as a Safety Management Consultant during the day so most of my daylight hours are spent developing and auditing safety programs. Once I'm home, I spend way too much time on twitter and the internet, but then I try to get down to writing. Once I'm at the computer with my hands on the keyboard I tend to forget about the rest of my life so I use a timer to remind me to eat and walk around periodically :)
HH: What goals have you set for yourself at this point in your career?
JB: At this point in my career, I'm determined to keep writing! I'm working on the sequel to Broken Rules right now and after that I'm just looking to move on to the next project.
HH: What are you reading at the moment?
JB: I just finished reading the entire Leashed series by Jet Mykles again. She's one of my critique partners, and is working on the latest Leashed story, so I decided to take a moment and just be a reader. Other than that my reading has slowed down a bit as I'm starting to focus almost exclusively on my current WIP. Once this is finished, I'll have to take some time to catch up on my reading again!
HH: Where is your favorite place to shop for books?
JB: I love used book stores. There used to be this one highway bookstore in Northern Ontario that I always used to go to when I was younger. I would just walk through the place with my family whenever we'd go to visit my Grandma, looking at all the books and getting a real sense for how significant stories really are. I'm not even sure if it's still there!
HH: Any New Year's resolutions?
JB: I tend to split my resolutions into personal and professional, so I have too many to go into. Little goals that are achievable tend to be my main focus, but one of my resolutions is to take a vacation where I don't bring anything electronic with me. I want to be completely cut off from the internet, email, twitter, etc. and just relax. We'll see if I can manage it!
HH: Thank you!
