Christiane France

The day before Drew McEvoy is to fly home, following a temporary work assignment in London, he trips going down the stairs to a teashop and is saved from injury by the quick thinking of Englishman Michael Dawson. Michael can see Drew is a little shaken up by the incident, so invites him to sit at his table to catch his breath and offers to buy him a cup of tea.

The chemistry is there from the word "go." Drew doesn’t know if it’s a momentary thing, or if it could turn into something more, but there’s not enough time for him to find out. All he can do is hold onto the moment and stretch it out to the very last drop.

But Michael surprises Drew by inviting him to have a drink at his flat and then go for dinner. Drew knows the most they can have is a few hours, that this time tomorrow they’ll be thousands of miles apart. Should he risk spoiling their brief time together by telling Michael that? Or would it be better to keep his mouth shut? After all, they’re just ships passing in the night, right?

An Interview with Christiane France
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Christiane, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Raindrops and Roses and features two very special characters who just might be perfect for each other. What do you like best about Drew and why will readers empathize with him?

CF: Drew isn’t one to settle for second best in anything. He’s waited a long time to meet the right man and he’s pretty sure Michael is the one. But he’s due to return to North America in less than twenty-four hours. Should he tell Michael and risk Michael walking away? Or should he just enjoy the short time they can have together?

HH: What do you like best about Michael and why will readers love him?

CF: There’s a lot of the little boy about Michael. He’s a loner and a dreamer and he’s always saving some one or some thing. His best friend is his flat  mate, Marmalade, a stray cat who would have frozen to death if Michael hadn’t found him and brought him home. When he saves Drew from almost certain injury, the chemistry between them is so strong he figures his life is now complete. Then Drew says he’s just passing through, and Michael is devastated. For Michael it’s like having his heart thrown back in his face.

HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story and what do you think readers will take away from it?

CF: I was born in London so I love setting stories there. I always love the way Fate takes a hand in our lives. If I hadn’t gone there or hadn’t done that, then this wouldn’t have happened. This is how I met my husband. If hadn’t run into friends on the bus going home, I wouldn’t have been invited to go out dancing with them. I wouldn’t have run into a guy I didn’t like who was always pestering me for a date, and I wouldn’t have met my honey who realized what was going on, invited me to dance and and saw me safely home.

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

CF: GETTING REAL will be released by Amber Allure sometime in March 2013. It’s part of the OFFICE AFFAIRS AmberPax and is the story of two men who both need to “get real” but for different reasons. TJ needs to prove he’s a responsible adult rather than a spoiled rich brat, and Cole needs to be proud of who he is instead of worrying what other people think.

RAINDROPS AND ROSES is the first in my London Calling series, and I’m already working on the second part of Drew and Michael’s story, tentatively titled THE HOLLY AND THE IVY. There will be two other stories in the series—SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE in THE MAN OF MY DREAMS Pax. in which a man goes to London on vacation and on his first day has a one-night stand with a guy he meets in a club. And BRIEF ENCOUNTER in the ALL ABOARD pax where the two characters meet while waiting for a train, spend the night together, and then meet again years later. I also have a story in the Music AmberPax to be released sometime during 2013—A LITTLE BIT OF COUNTRY.

HH: How does 2013 promise to be different from 2012 for you?

CF: I mostly write contemporary, but I have a partially-written cat shifter story. Maybe 2013 will be the year I finally finish it. =)

HH: Where do you find inspiration for your stories?

CF: Everywhere. For example, RAINDROPS AND ROSES. One day I was watching raindrops slide down the window and I had the first paragraph. It took a while before I had the rest of the story, but that’s how my inspiration works. I see something that make me wonder what if? And then I wonder what if this happened and so on and so on.

HH: What's your writing schedule like?

CF: I have a stack of stories started, and 4 with deadlines in 2013 so they have to be my priority.

HH: What's your favorite way to interact with readers?

CF: I enjoy the publisher chats we have on the Yahoo loops and also the parties arranged by The Romance Studio. I used to enjoy going to conferences, but I haven’t been to one in quite a while.

HH: What are you most looking forward to in 2013?

CF: A world free of prejudice and violence.  Okay, I’m a dreamer, but if we all try to be a little less prejudicial, back off instead of fighting, and get into the habit of practicing random acts of kindness the world will definitely be a better place for us all.

HH: We'll think so too. Thank you!
