| The Quinns and the Simmons have been feuding for generations over a blue diamond. They've been taught to hate one another almost from the moment of birth. When a group of Neo-Nazi skinheads get into the fray people start dying. Evan Quinn and Dr. Caroline Simmons are the last of their families. Will the battling end in light of their mutual struggle for survival?
Kat Duncan pens a suspense that will frequently have the reader wanting to hold your breath awaiting the outcome. No one can be trusted as the pull of the diamond seems to affect anyone who even comes close to it. This book is full of characters who will pull you closer to them or make us really angry as bravery under fire vies with the evil of the villains. Innocent victims in a children's hospital mean nothing to the worst of the lot, Rolf Bauer. His dialogue is often macabre to those of us who think life is precious. The transition between hatred and trust is a difficult one for Evan and Caroline. Duncan does an excellent job building them as people who are real and honorable in spite of their upbringing. Caroline even tries to save the life of a man who has been her family's worst enemy. I haven't read much from Kat Duncan in the past but she has me hooked on the way she tells a story. This book personifies what I want in a romantic suspense. The romance has just enough spice and builds slowly through some of the worst circumstances one could imagine. The suspense keeps me guessing and hoping throughout the book. She's become a must read author for me.
