| Two young research assistants come upon a coffin and in reaching down to touch the necklace that rests on the body, Earl inadvertently pricks his finger and as his blood drops onto the body, accidently wakes up the creature that has been sleeping for over six hundred years. As Chloe awakens, she is confused and frightened. Not knowing who they are, she asks for her father and if they have any of his elixir that he gave her to drink. Earl and Benny realize that Chloe is a vampire, but find it interesting that she doesn't know she is.
This story starts out in present time with the awakening of Chloe by two bumbling but lovable characters named Earl and Benny. While Earl is staying with Chloe and Benny goes in search of the "elixir" that Chloe needs, he discovers a rolled up document that was written by Chloe's father. The story then travels back six hundred years to describe Chloe's life and how she ended up becoming a vampire and not knowing it. The way that Ms. Parker describes the characters, clothing and mannerism of that period of time is wonderful, well researched and detailed. You can actually see and feel what her father goes through in keeping Chloe's secret from her and how he keeps her alive. As you follow the story of Chloe, what she is and the powers she has, there is an evil master, Jochad that wants her for her powers and will do anything to obtain her. There is also a great slayer, Zaccarius, watching over her to judge her and determine if she will live or die. But, as he watches her, he begins to feel things for her that he has not felt in many centuries. The journey of Chloe and Zaccarius and what they go through to be together, is well written and keeps you entertained all the way to the end of the story. Once again, Ms. Parker has written a story that is entertaining and detailed. She has a way of bringing her characters to life and you want to keep reading to see what happens next. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I am looking forward to reading more of her books.
