Kendall Aims is a published author. Since her first editor left to have a baby, she has been at the mercy of "Plain Jane", a psychotic author hating editor who has decided not to renew her contract. With her career in tatters the last thing she needs is to come home to find that her husband wants a divorce. She is fortunate in her friendship with three fellow authors. The four of them could not be more different but they all pull together to help Kendall in her time of need. The result is an accidental best seller and the salvation of both Kendall's life and her career. The four find out that they do not know each other as well as they think they do and they find that they can really rely on each other when they need to.

This is a wonderful story told with the empathy and humor that only someone familiar with the publishing field can bring. The characters are vividly well developed and so real that you will feel you know them by the end of the story. The subplot of Lacey's trials and tribulations as assistant to “Plain Jane” and her efforts to get Kendall's book published is good enough for a book of its own. The publishing industry and the editorial process that each book goes through are portrayed with great detail and obviously through eyes of an insider. The author does a wonderful job of presenting five disparate points of view and combining them to tell a story that will have the reader mesmerized from the first page to the last. Each of the characters has their own story to tell and Ms. Wax does a superlative job in this work.
