Hope Pearson has just had her world turned upside down by the death of her father and the revelation that her fiancé is nothing more than a con artist. Now all she wants to do is escape to the one place she remembers being happy -- her family's ranch in Serenity Cove, Texas. Caleb McBryde isn't expecting to find Hope in the car that crashed on the side of the road. His job as caretaker on her family's ranch has given him somewhere to heal and has him taking on the responsibility of keeping Hope safe from whoever wants to hurt her.

There is a definite spark between Caleb and Hope from the moment they meet, though neither acknowledges it. In fact, Hope is so hardened by recent events that she has a hard time accepting Caleb's deep faith and is bothered by his open praying. But, even with her resistance to God, she is drawn to Caleb's gentle strength. Likewise, Caleb finds himself drawn to her in a way he never expected, and not just because she rouses all of his protective instincts. He can see beyond the surface to the scared, hurt woman inside and he wants to help her heal by leading her back to God. They are each exactly what the other needs. The tenderness between them each time they're with each other illustrates how their feelings deepen over the course of the story.

Though this is a really enjoyable story with an interesting twist or two, there are some technical problems that jarred me out of the story. There are a number of places throughout the book where words repeat themselves and make it hard to read the sentence without stumbling over what it means. Along with that, the story occasionally shifts between past and present tense. All that aside, though, this is a rather touching story about two people coming together at the right moment and growing together in faith.
