| Aimee has devoted her life to helping the homeless by befriending them and boosting their self-worth. By choosing to perform this humanitarian work at night, she constantly puts her own life in danger. On one particularly cold night, she attempts to find one man among the homeless who has captured her imagination. She has only seen him a few times, but wishes to get to know him better by bringing him an extra blanket. There is just something about this homeless man that calls to her. On this night, some thugs accost her. Her "phantom" saves her and starts something neither of them wishes to end. Slowly she realizes that her mystery man is not all he seems; for he is neither homeless, nor completely human.
Ms. Bedwell-Grime packs quite a punch in this short story. It is filled with great imagery and a fully developed story. This is extremely hard to accomplish in such a short amount of space. She brings the emotions of the characters, and the dark atmosphere surrounding them to life. Aimee and her Phantom definitely deserve a good look.
