Nichelle Drake wakes up in a hospital knowing her name but little else. She is mystified when she finds out that she was found, injured and floating in a lifeboat in the Gulf of Mexico.

Doctor Kevin Conner believes the answers to her mysteries are buried deep in her mind, and will return with time and healing.

Sheriff Doug Manning, doesn't want to wait for Nichelle to regain her memory. He fears that whoever hurt her and left her adrift will be looking to finish what they started.

As Nichelle fights to regain her memory in a Louisiana hospital, her ex-husband is breaking into her apartment. Surprised by the apartment's manager, Trish, he stammers lies and makes a hasty exit, but it is enough to rise Trish's suspicions.

The dark dreams haunting Nichelle don't help. Every time she crawls her way to wakefulness, they fade, leaving only exasperation behind.

After a man arrives at the hospital asking questions, Sheriff Manning decides the safest place for Nichelle is at his house. Attraction builds between Nichelle and the Sheriff, but he isn't free to pursue it, a fact he keeps from her.

I enjoyed this story. It builds naturally and does not disappoint. Even with the misunderstandings between these two, I found myself rooting for them to find their way to each other.
