Trista, a faerie princess of D’Naath, has accompanied her father and her brother-in-law to Greenbriar to convince Braedon, King of Greenbriar, to give up his claim on her sister who is in love with someone else. Braedon is more than willing to give up Trista’s sister as long as Trista marries him. Braedon needs to marry a faerie princess in order to keep his lands safe from wizards and if he can’t have one sister, he’ll take Trista.

Trista is rightly angered and shocked by Braedon’s announcement. She planned to marry for love, to break the cycle of arranged marriages. Instead, she is being given to Braedon with no say in the matter. His surly demeanor and cold behaviors repel her. There is no way she could ever love a man so different from her own warm and giving personality. But the marriage has been set and now Trista has little recourse. Will she try to escape, or will she face her fears and get to know Braedon, to discover the loving man underneath the tough warrior exterior?

Aftermath is an engrossing fantasy romance which stars an unlikely couple. Trista is all things happiness and light and can’t understand Bradeon’s cold character. However, she’s not scared of a challenge and tries to figure out what makes her betrothed tick, a fact which leads to some humorous scenes. While their wild sexual antics are sure to raise your heart rate, Jaci Burton truly makes this story special when Trista and Braedon are getting to know each other and are attempting to find a way to live together in spite of their contrasting personalities. Aftermath is an irresistible story that features two equally matched characters. Braedon and Trista may not seem like soul mates at the beginning, but by the end, no one would dispute the love, caring, and desire that is a central part of their relationship.
