Brede Kristensen owns a sheep ranch in New Mexico, and since the death of his wife and baby son three years ago, his ranch has been his sanity, but he's turned hard and bitter. He's left as a single father to raise his daughter, Gretchen, but fearing she will share her late mother's hatred for ranching, he sends her away to an academy in the city. On a stormy night, Brede follows his barking dogs to something they've discovered in a nearby gully. Spying what he believes to be an injured animal, he instead finds a woman. Underneath the mud covering, she's a beauty who's been beaten and left for dead. The weather and fear of flash floods prevent him from taking her for medical help, so he has no choice but to become her care giver and help her regain her lost memory. He calls the woman he finds Lynne, but it isn't long before Brede finds himself falling in love with Cheyenne Maddox. "After the Rain," by Connie Vines is a heart-warming who-dun-it mystery, with great, steamy romance scenes. The air of mystery at the beginning really hooked me, and although I loved the story line, I was somewhat disappointed with the ending. In my opinion, it seemed to come too fast and leave me wanting more detail and information about the villain and his dastardly deeds. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it...I just wanted more After the Rain! I recommend you read it and see what you think-it's still a good read.
