Sarah Reynolds was abducted by some very bad men. They held her prisoner for four days before telling her why. They’d mistaken her for her business partner, Susan Dansberry. They wanted something they thought Susan’s brother Mark had given Susan to hide for him before he was killed six months ago. Sarah had no idea what they were talking about. She knew if Mark had given something like that to Susan, she would know about it. They were best friends and they shared everything. The crime boss, Raul Rodriguez, was very civilized when he arrived on the tropical island where Sarah was being held. He told the goons to let her shower and dress in clean clothes before she would join Raul for dinner. Then if she didn’t tell him where the thing he wanted was they would begin to torture her in the morning.

Susan Dansberry opened the florist shop she owned with Sarah Reynolds and read about her own abduction in a note pushed under the door. She realized they must have mistaken Sarah for her. She called Clint Becker, her brother’s business partner and also her cousin, to rescue Sarah. She knew if anyone could do it, Clint could. He was a professional mercenary for the government. This rescue was right up his alley. Piece of cake. Of course he hadn’t counted on Sarah being such an independent, smart mouthed, stubborn, hard headed, sexy, seductive pain in the ass.

The sexual tension between Sarah and Clint is evident from the first moment and keeps building throughout the story. Ms. Wallace wrote their sexual attraction with such intensity even the reader can feel the discomfort. It is almost as much a relief to us as it is to them when they finally can’t fight the attraction any more and give in to it. Against The Odds is a wonderful alpha male meets his match in the sexy independent damsel in distress kind of story. As hard as they both fight it initially and as painful as it is getting there, they can’t help but live happily ever after. And we can’t help but enjoy reading about it.
