| Diana Tiverton is engaged to a man she believes is a cold fish. Her
half-sister is a madam, and offers services to the ton's elite. Diana
persuades her sister, Ivy, to allow her to watch the goings-on, just so she
can get a tiny taste of passion before dedicating herself to a cold marriage
bed. Diana dresses as Ivy, and watches the night's pleasures unfold. Lucien
Northcote, a rake and Ivy's customer, catches Diana's eye. He flirts, and is
completely shameless about his masculinity and charm. She wants him, but
can't have him. While watching an erotic version of blind man's bluff with
Lucien as the blind man, she imagines herself as some of the working girls.
The next man to step into the ring of women is none other than her seemingly
cold fiance, Stephen. She yells out his name and runs out of the brothel,
Lucien on her heels. He tells her he will take her home in his carriage, but
before they ever get moving, Diana reveals her needs. Lucien tells her she
can experience passion with him without ever losing her virginity.
A Gentleman Seduced is an erotic regency romance in the style of Cheryl Holt, but far better (no offense to said author). The love scenes were far more explicit and sensual, and Lucien was less arrogant. In fact, for a regency hero, he was quite likable. If I think of the book in terms of the times, Diana was a bit foolish as a heroine, and lucky that she found Lucien instead of someone else. If I think of it in terms of just romance, Diana was a strong-willed heroine that felt a need to experience passion, something I'm sure many women would understand. The love scenes were quite enjoyable, sexy, and hot, and the author was able to communicate them vividly to me, as well as some nonsexual scenes in the story. A Gentleman Seduced offered one of the best erotic regency romances I've read to date, and it's a definite must-read for Cheryl Holt fans, as well as any reader looking, but not finding, a regency with a good monogamous sexual romp in it. Reviewer's Note: This book contains voyeurism of multiple-partner sex, but the hero and heroine never engage in intercourse with others.
