| Zeva was left behind on earth when the gate to her world was destroyed, and has found that what she left behind isn't as bad as she thought. Kept a prisoner for a year, she thinks that she will never see her homeland again. She'd left to escape the attentions of two men who thought they were her mates, Ravid and Keenan, because she didn't want to loose her identity in a mating with those two strong individuals. Now that she's been gone so long, she's starting to wonder if things were as bad as she remembers.
Ravid and Keenan have been searching for a way to get Zeva back for the last year. They are Judgment officials, and as such are under constant threat and isolated from regular society. They want and need Zeva, but aren't sure if it's safe to bring her into their world. When she is captured on earth, they decide that they can't do without her and do everything in their power to get her back. When they find her, will she be willing to accept them? This could have been a wonderful story of a woman that is forced to grow up and become strong, but to me it was very inconsistent. Zeva ends up being just as immature as when she left, and allows the men in her life to control the situation. I was surprised that more hadn't happened to her when she got captured, it seemed pretty mild compared to what I would have thought would occur. When Zeva gets back to her homeland, it's like she never left. Keenan and Ravid are strong men, due to the nature of their job and their personality, so sometimes going up against them isn't easy. The emotions of the characters get more consistent the deeper the story goes and as the three start to understand that they must let go of some of their preconceived notions of what a union is. In the end, it turns out to be a good story that I had a pleasurable time reading. I don't think it's necessary to read the other one in the series, Alcadian Quest, in order to enjoy this one, although it would help you understand some of the unusual rituals that are carried out as they go deeper into courtship.
