| Tina Farrin is the owner of a vintage clothes shop, devoted to the decadent fashion of the bygone movie stars. But lately sales have shown a tendency of going down, perhaps because of the huge delivery van that comes for the shop across the street every so often and blocks the entire road for traffic or perhaps because of the homeless man who has taken shelter in the doorway near her shop, scaring away the few customers who brave the van. The shop is Tina's dream and no way is she going to let these circumstances hurt her enterprise. What else can a gal do but to enlist the homeless man as a handyman. But there is something mysterious about the Gage Prescott who appears to be too clean, too well-fed and too optimistic to be a bum. And why is he so fascinated with what happens in the shop across the street?
This is a fast-paced read and the action takes place in the space of a few days. The story opens with a bang with Tina herding Gage to her shop and to do her bidding with the aid of a broom. The electricity between the two is instant and adds to the slightly surreal, believe it or not, feel of this novella. There is only one thing to criticise - the author's insistent repetition of the name of Tina's shop. Apart from this, a satisfying read.
