| Alitus is the Empress Destoiya’s favorite sex toy. His brainpower and pheromones give him even more advantage in serving her in whatever capacity she wants, sexual or otherwise. When she signs a law saying that the Betters, an enhanced group of people that includes Alitus, must wear veils it drives a sliver into their relationship that may drive them apart.
Kayelle Allen writes some totally erotic stories about the Tarthian Empire and its people. Alitus is really recommended as the fourth book of the Tarthian series. If you’ve read the others this one is better. She builds Alitus well as totally loyal to the immortal Empress. After all, she saved his life when some of the Praetorian guards were going to rape him. Destoiya is an interesting woman. She’s in charge of her world, afraid of no man or woman, except her brother Pietas who is evil incarnate. Imagine a ruler who has a harem of loyal men each with a unique strength to give her pleasure. She also has Alitus at her beck and call 24/7. And still takes her sexual pleasures from other men or women. Get a better picture? Seems the woman never sleeps! Ms. Allen is one of those storytellers who builds her characters, their dialogue, and her scenarios well. She’s so descriptive that it’s easy to view the world she paints. This is well worth the read but you may have to work to understand some of the background if you haven‘t read the other books. And, since it’s built into overlapping series about the empire itself, there’s no real ending. That frustrates me because I don’t know for sure when my curiosity will be satisfied about what the future may be for the characters I like. It’s a good read that you’ll like if you understand it will be continued.
